The Swift Current Broncos and Prince George Cougars swapped goaltenders on Monday. Headed to Swift Current is 2002-born Jacob Herman, who has played in two WHL games to date. He has a 6.00 goals-against average and a .831 save percentage. Headed to Prince George Cougars is 2002-born Jordan Fairlie, who has appeared in just one WHL contest.
Winterhawks acquire rights to Wallstedt

The rights to Jesper Wallstedt are on the move. The Portland Winterhawks acquired the goaltender’s rights from the Moose Jaw Warriors on Monday in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in 2023. Wallstedt was the 46th overall selection at the 2019 CHL Import Draft and he is widely considered a first-round draft pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Zummack wins Brad Hornung Trophy

With just four penalty minutes through 21 games, while contributing nine goals and 13 assists, Eli Zummack is the 2020-21 winner of the Brad Hornung Trophy as the WHL’s most sportsmanlike player. The Chiefs captain is the fourth player from the team to be named as the trophy’s recipient following Tyler Johnson, Steve Junker, and Pat Falloon.

With 43 points in 24 games, Peyton Krebs was awarded the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL’s top scorer in 2020-21. Krebs had six more points in the same number of games than his closest competitor for the trophy. The 20-year-old from Okotoks, AB had a Winnipeg ICE franchise-record 23-game scoring streak this season, only ended by the end of the regular season.
Sillinger named USHL rookie of the year
Rookie forward Cole Sillinger named @USHL Rookie of the Year for the 2020-21 season.
Sillinger tallied 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points in 31 games for the Stampede.

Forward Cole Sillinger appeared in 31 games for the Sioux Falls Stampede, earning 46 points on 24 goals and 22 assists. He joined the Stampede on loan from the Medicine Hat Tigers on January 10 due to coronavirus restrictions in Canada. His 24 goals and 1.48 points per game were the highest among rookie skaters in 20 or more games played.

Former Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Akira Schmid was named USHL goaltender of the year on Monday. Schmid played just one game for the Hurricanes back in 2018-19 after the team used the 20th overall pick at the 2018 CHL Import Draft on him. Schmid appeared in 36 games in 2020-21 and finished the season with a 22-13-1 record. Schmid posted the USHL’s best goals-against average (2.01) and save percentage (.921) to go along with three shutouts, tied for the league lead.

The Brandon Wheat Kings announced on Monday that their athletic therapist, William Sadonick-Carriere, had been hired by the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. Sadonick-Carriere had spent the last two seasons with the Wheat Kings, he is the fourth trainer to move into a professional hockey role.

Defenseman Tomas Kudelka (123GP, 20G, 52A with Lethbridge ’05-’07) has signed with Pionniers Chamonix of Ligue Magnus, France’s top professional hockey league. Kudelka played 2020-21 with VHK Vsetin of the Czech2 league, scoring two goals and adding three assists through 30 games. Kudelka was the 45th overall selection at the 2005 CHL Import Draft. He was also selected in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators.
