203 WHL players and alumni on NHL Training Camp rosters

The list includes several draft picks from the 2020 NHL Draft as well as two of the three oldest players in the NHL in Zdeno Chara and Patrick Marleau. The list has since been updated to include 203 players and alumni.

Leier and Rodewald join HC Ocelari Trinec

Taylor Leier (198GP, 77G, 101A with Portland ’11-’14) has signed with HC Ocelari Trinec of the Czech league. Last season, Leier played for the Rochester Americans of the AHL and scored 11 goals to go with six assists in 27 games. Leier is a draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers (4th round, 2012) and won a WHL Championship with the Winterhawks in 2012-13.

Jack Rodewald (255GP, 76G, 90A with Regina and Moose Jaw ’10-’15) has also signed with HC Ocelari Trinec. Rodewald was undrafted but made his NHL debut during the 2017-18 season with the Ottawa Senators. He has since had 10 games of NHL experience over the last five seasons. He has also spent time in the ECHL and AHL.

Hamonic signs professional try-out with Flames

Travis Hamonic (181GP, 29G, 80A with Moose Jaw and Brandon ’06-’10) has signed a professional try-out with the Vancouver Canucks. Last season Hamonic played with the Calgary Flames for 50 games registering three goals and nine assists. Hamonic represented the Brandon Wheat Kings at the 2010 Memorial Cup and was named to its all-star team.

Brule joins Unia Oswiecim

Gilbert Brule (165GP, 87G, 98A with Vancouver ’02-’06) has joined Unia Oswiecim of Poland’s top professional league. Brule joins the team from Kunlun Red Star (KHL), where he played the 2019-20 season. He had seven goals and 12 assists in 44 games. Brule is a WHL champion with the Giants in 2005-06 and was named to the Memorial Cup all-star team. The Columbus Blue Jackets selected Brule sixth overall at the 2005 NHL Draft.

Gricius released by Americans (ECHL)

Jake Gricius (271GP, 71G, 89A with Portland ’16-’20) has been released by the Allen Americans of the ECHL. In six games with the Americans, Gricius had not registered a point. It is unknown at this time what is next for the 21-year-old Colorado Springs, CO product.
