Alberta Health grants WHL approval to play

Following lengthy discussions with Alberta Health Services as well as the Alberta Government, the Western Hockey League has been granted the OK to play hockey within the province. There are a number of rules and guidelines to follow. More can be found here.

Former Medicine Hat Tiger on the move

Defenseman Linus Nassen (106GP, 8G, 64A with Medicine Hat ’17-’19) has been loaned by Vaxjo Lakers HC (SHL) to HC Vita Hasten (HockeyAllsvenskan). The loan is to assist HC Vita Hasten through the weekend. Thus far, Nassen has one assist through 25 games with Vaxjo.

Pavlenko called up to KHL

 

Forward Andrei Pavlenko (78GP, 12G, 18A with Edmonton ’17-19) has been called up to play with Dinamo Minsk from Dinamo-Molodechno (Belarus). In 25 games with Dinamo-Molodechno, Pavlenko scored three goals and added three assists. He has no points in three games in a previous call-up.

Plutnar signs extension

Forward Michal Plutnar (182GP, 14G, 39A with Tri-City ’11-’14) has signed a contract extension with HC Energie K. Vary of the Czech Extraliga. The contract has been signed through April 30, 2023. Currently injured, Plutnar had played in 17 games with the team, registering three assists. Plutnar won an Extraliga Championship in 2015-16 while playing for Bili Tygri Liberec.

Bowey signs with Blackhawks

Defenseman Madison Bowey (259GP, 58G, 114A with Kelowna ’10-’15) has signed with the Chicago Blackhawks. Bowey was originally a second-round NHL draft pick of the Washington Capitals. He has since played 154 NHL games with Washington and Detroit.  Bowey won a Stanley Cup with Washington, an Ed Chynoweth Cup with Kelowna as well as gold medals with Team Canada at the U18 Championships and the IIHF World Junior Championships.

Utica announces Training Camp roster

There are five WHL alumni on the combined Training Camp roster of the Vancouver Canucks and St Louis Blues AHL affiliate, Utica Comets. Forwards Sven Baertschi, Carson Focht, Kole Lind, and Tanner Kaspick have been invited along with defenseman Jett Woo.
