Daily Dose of the DUB: More AHL clubs announce training camp rosters, alumni moves and more

 

Broncos sign prospect

The Swift Current Broncos announced the signing of 2004-born forward Connor Hvidston on Tuesday. Hvidston was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 WHL Draft. Last season Hvidston only saw action in seven games with the Yorkton Maulers U18 AAA team but he did score six goals and added six assists. He is currently listed on the Melfort Mustangs (SJHL) roster.

3 WHL Alumni and current players on Binghamton Devils training camp roster

The Binghamton Devils released their training camp roster in anticipation of the 2020-21 season. Former WHLers Colby Sissons, David Quenneville, and Nolan Foote are all listed as participants. The Devils begin their pre-season action on Friday, January 29th. Foote is eligible to return to the Kelowna Rockets, but as a signed 20-year-old player it is unlikely.

3 WHL Alumni and current players on Texas Stars training camp roster

The Texas Stars announced their training camp roster on Tuesday and it included former and current WHL players Nikita Scherbak, Dawson Barteaux, and Max Martin. Barteaux is eligible to return to the Winnipeg ICE but as a signed 20-year-old it is unlikely he is sent back to the team. Texas begins their AHL season on Friday, February 5th.

Soustal signs extension

Forward Tomas Soustal (241GP, 68G, 105A with Kelowna and Edmonton ’14-’18) has signed a two-year extension with HC Kometa Brno of the Czech Extraliga. Soustal was a member of the 2014-15 Rockets team that won the Ed Chynoweth Cup. He spent two seasons at Lakehead University following his WHL career and just returned to Europe this season.

Spacek off to Czech League

Forward Michael Spacek (120GP, 48G, 91A with Red Deer ’15-’17) has joined HC Ocelari Trinec following his recent departure from Tappara of Liiga in Finland. Spacek spent three full seasons as a member of the Manitoba Moose after being selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. In 18 games with Tappara, Spacek scored five goals and added eight assists.

Kozun heads to Rapid City

Goaltender Taran Kozun (135GP, 64-52-15, 2.73GAA, .912 sv% with Kamloops and Seattle) has been traded to the Rapid City Rush from the Indy Fuel. Kozun played in just one game for the Fuel, which he won. He had a 2.01 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage. Rapid City will be his fourth team this season.

McCrimmon acts as head coach for Vegas Golden Knights

Due to COVID-19 protocols, the former owner of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Kelly McCrimmon, was put into action as coach of the Vegas Golden Knights. McCrimmon is currently the General Manager of the team and he also had to call up the Henderson Silver Knights coaching staff that includes former WHL coach Manny Viveiros.
