Gawdin makes NHL debut

Forward Glenn Gawdin (312GP, 126G, 187A with Swift Current ’12-’18) made his NHL debut last night with the Calgary Flames. Originally the fifth overall pick at the 2012 WHL Draft, Gawdin went on to become the team’s captain for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. The Broncos went on to win the 2017-18 Ed Chynoweth Cup. Gawdin was a fourth-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2015 but did not sign an NHL contract with the Calgary Flames until this season.

Merkley assigned to Binghamton

Forward Nick Merkley (245GP, 85G, 174A with Kelowna ’12-’17) has been assigned to the Binghamton Devils after serving on the New Jersey Devils’ taxi squad. In five games with the New Jersey Devils, Merkley has a goal and two assists. He does not have a point in his one game with Binghamton. The former ninth overall pick of the Rockets in 2012 was a member of the 2014-15 Ed Chynoweth winning Rockets roster. Merkley was a first-round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2015.

Kucerik signs extension with HC Kometa Brno

Defenseman Radek Kucerik (49GP, 3G, 10A with Saskatoon) signed a two-year deal to remain with HC Kometa Brno of the Czech League. Through 14 games this season Kucerik has two assists with HC Kometa Brno. He has also played 14 games for HC Prerov, earning three assists. Kucerik was also part of the Czech Republic team at this year’s IIHF World Junior Championships, playing in five games. Kucerik was a second-round selection of the Saskatoon Blades at the 2019 CHL Import Draft.

Bafaro quickly finds a home

Defenseman Seth Bafaro (206GP, 13G, 32A with Tri-City, Saskatoon, and Vancouver) has found a home in Vernon, BC with the Vipers of the BCHL. It was just announced on Friday that Bafaro had been placed on and cleared WHL waivers.
