Daily Dose of the Dub: Yamamoto recalled; Legien shines in debut

Yamamoto recalled

With Alex Chiasson injured, former Spokane Chief Kailer Yamamoto has been recalled by the Edmonton Oilers after eight points in 11 games in Bakersfield of the AHL. In 12 NHL games this season he has recorded two goals and two assists.

Legien gets on the scoresheet

One day after joining the team, Jared Legien did not take long to leave a good impression on his teammates, putting up a goal and two assists in his Giants debut in a 6-0 win over Red Deer. The 20 year old signed with Vancouver after playing this season with Yorkton of the SJHL putting up 52 points in 32 games.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Victoria’s Dante Hannoun had a big night on Friday, putting up four goals and an assist in the Royals’ 6-2 win over Lethbridge.

2nd Star: Moose Jaw’s Tristin Langan recorded two goals and an assist including the overtime winner in the Warriors’ 4-3 win over Swift Current. He also had 12 shots in the game

3rd Star: Vancouver’s David Tendeck earned a shutout, stopping all 28 shots he faced in the Giants’ 6-0 win. It is the fifth shutout of his WHL career.

Prince Albert’s Noah Gregor scoring two goals with an assist in the Raiders’ 4-2 win over Saskatoon….Regina’s Duncan Pierce had nine shots and an assist in the Pats’ 3-2 win over Brandon….Edmonton’s Andrew Fyten had a goal and an assist in the Oil Kings’ 7-3 win against Calgary….Tigers’ captain James Hamblin had two goals in a 4-1 win over Kootenay….Kamloops’ Zane Franklin had two goals including the overtime winner in the Blazers’ 3-2 win over Kelowna….Tri City’s Sasha Mutala recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime win over Portland….Prince George goalie Taylor Gauthier stopped 29 of 30 shots in a 2-1 win over Seattle….Everett’s Connor Dewar potted two goals in a 3-1 win over Spokane.

Troubling Moments

Portland’s John Ludvig was given a five minute major for checking from behind and a game misconduct for this nasty hit. We’re pretty sure the WHL will be looking at this one.

Saskatoon’s Brandon Schuldhaus was given a five minute kneeing major and a game misconduct for this hit against Prince Albert.

Tri-City’s Roman Kalinichenko could face some supplemental discipline after this high hit on Portland’s Brendan De Jong.
