Winterhawks sign Mori

The Portland Winterhawks have signed 2019 8th round pick Josh Mori from St. Georges School in the CSSHL. Our Josh Critzer has the full story here. 

Ernst recalled by Blazers

The Kamloops Blazers have recalled 2019 second-round pick, Dylan Ernst, from the Moose Jaw Warriors of the SMHL. Ernst has played 17 games this season and has posted a 2.35 GAA and .920 save percentage. The move comes after Dylan Garand was injured over the weekend in a home-and-home with the Vancouver Giants. The Blazers have not officially updated his status but reports suggest he will be out this weekend, if not longer.

Henderson goes back to Midget

Jayden Henderson has returned to the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAA of the AMHL after playing in two games with the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Taylor back to Burnaby

With his WHL debut behind him, Marcus Taylor is back with the Burnaby Winter Club of the CSSHL.

Jarvis named WHL Player of the Month

After a red-hot January in which he was nearly a three-points-per-game player, Seth Jarvis of the Portland Winterhawks has been named the WHL’s Player of the Month. The final totals on Jarvis’ month read: 11 goals and 18 assists in 10 games. He recorded at least one point in each of those 10 games.

Farkas wins WHL Goaltender of the Month

Shane Farkas of the Victoria Royals has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Month for January. Farkas was perfect in January with a 5-0-0-0 record 1.12 GAA and .964 save percentage.

Teply is WHL Rookie of the Month

Chicago Blackhawks prospect and Winnipeg ICE forward Michal Teply has been named the WHL’s Rookie of the Month for January. In nine games in January, Teply tallied seven goals and seven assists.

Beckman named WHL Player of the Week

Spokane’s Adam Beckman has been named the WHL Player of the Week after putting up two goals and five assists in three games this week as the Chiefs worked their way to a 2-1 record. Beckman has won this award once before this season.

Paddock named WHL Goaltender of the Week

Prince Albert’s Max Paddock has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week posting a pair of wins, 0.50 GAA and .972 save percentage in two games. It’s the second time this season Paddock has been honoured this way and first since being traded to the Raiders from the Regina Pats.

Pysyk records first career hat-trick

Mark Pysyk (243 GP, 25 G, 100 A with the Edmonton Oil Kings from 2007-12) recorded the first hat-trick of his NHL career on Monday night which was also the first hat-trick by a defenseman in Florida Panthers franchise history.

Braes signs in England

A little over a week after being released by the Guildford Flames, Cam Braes (350 GP, 116 G, 124 A with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Moose Jaw Warriors from 2007-12) has signed a contract for the rest of the year with Manchester Storm in England. In 33 games with Guildford, Braes recorded four goals and six assists.

Valchar signs in Hungary for rest of season

Radim Valchar (152 GP, 32 G, 38 A with the Portland Winterhawks and Lethbridge Hurricanes from 2007-10) has signed a contract for the rest of the year with Jegesmedvek Miskolc in Hungary after a successful two-game tryout in which he notched a goal.

Ahl signs new contract in Sweden

Filip Ahl (28 G, 20 A in 54 GP with the Regina Pats in the 2016-17 season) has signed with Sodertalje in Sweden for the rest of the year. Ahl agreed to a release from Swedish club Karlskoga on January 28th after potting 17 goals and 23 assists in 40 games.
