WHL creates and unveils the Bob Ridley Award for Media Excellence

As Medicine Hat Tigers’ play by play broadcaster Bob Ridley celebrated his 4,000th broadcast, the WHL unveiled a new award that will be awarded in his honour. With more than 50 years of service to the Tigers and the WHL, Ridley has earned an incredible distinction. Ridley has also hit a number of career milestones:
- 1995 – Medicine Hat Civic Recognition Sports Award
- 2005 – Alberta Sports Hall of Fame Bell Memorial Award
- 2005 – Alberta Centennial Award
- 2006 – WHL Distinguished Service Award
- 2007 – Lifetime Achievement Award, Radio Television Directors News Awards
- 2011 – Inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame
- 2019 – Inducted into the Western Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame

With the opening of the 2020-21 regular season there were expected to be some kinks in the systems that brought the WHL to our living rooms. The CHL and WHL issued a joint statement regarding the quality and delivery of their new streaming service, and addressed the fact that they are working on fixing the issues. Last night’s games on CHL TV were an improvement in many areas.

Spokane Chiefs forward Adam Beckman (132GP, 80G, 89A) has been returned to the club by the Iowa Wild. Beckman appeared in seven AHL games, registering two goals and an assist. Beckman was a third-round pick of the Minnesota Wild at the 2019 NHL Draft and has been signed by the NHL club.

Forward Ridley Greig (123GP, 40G, 56A) has been returned to the Brandon Wheat Kings by the Belleville Senators. Grieg appeared in four AHL games and collected two assists. The Ottawa Senators drafted Grieg in the first round at the 2020 NHL Draft. He was the eighth overall pick by the Wheat Kings at the 2017 WHL Draft.
Baddock recalled by Canadiens

Forward Brandon Baddock (255GP, 54G, 49A with Edmonton ’11-’16) has been recalled by the Montreal Canadiens from the Laval Rocket. Baddock will serve on the team’s taxi squad. Through four games with the Rocket, Baddock has a goal and an assist. Baddock was a sixth round pick of the New Jersey Devils at the 2014 NHl Draft.
