WHL reduces Butt suspension

With Makai Mitchell returning to the Regina Pats sooner than expected, the WHL has decided to reduce Dawson Butt‘s suspension from 12 games to 10. As a result, Butt will be eligible to return to Everett’s lineup for Friday’s highly anticipated game with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Olson gets one-game suspension

Calgary Hitmen forward Kyle Olson has been suspended for one game for an instigator penalty in the last five minutes of Wednesday’s game vs. Regina. The club has also been fined $500 for the incident.

Rebels to select first in inaugural American Draft

The Red Deer Rebels are on the clock for the first-ever WHL U.S. Prospects Draft set for March 25th. The Rebels received this pick after being selected in a lottery which each of the WHL’s 22 teams had an equal opportunity to win. The Saskatoon Blades will select last in the first round and thus will select first in the second round in the two-round snake style draft. The pool of talent will come from the Western U.S. and any player not selected will remain eligible for the WHL Bantam Draft and be listed by any WHL club.
