WHL launches WHLPodcast

Following the successful launch of several WHL podcasts, the league itself has launched their own podcast. Zach Hodder, Manager of Player Development is the host and the Podcast launched with Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Johansen, and Bowen Byram as the first group of guests. AHL’s Iowa Wild sign two WHL alumni

Josh Maser (218GP, 90G, 53A with Prince Albert and Prince George) was signed to an AHL contract by the Iowa Wild following his 20-year-old season with the Cougars. The product of Penticton, BC had not been drafted by an NHL team and will join the affiliate of the Minnesota Wild for the 2020-21 season.

Jesse Mychan (104GP, 29G, 31A with Everett and Tri-City) signed an AHL/ECHL deal also with the Wild. Mychan spent all of last season with Esbjerg Energy of Denmark’s professional league scoring 11 times and adding eight assists in 46 games. It was his second season with the team.

Mike Aviani (273GP, 89G, 188A with Spokane Chiefs) signed a contract with UTE of the Erste Liga, which has professional teams in Romania and Hungary. 2020-21 will be his seventh professional season and his fourth overseas. Last season he played for Nice of the France league, scoring 14 goals and assisting on 17 others in 38 games.

Burke takes a coaching position in Arizona

Brendan Burke (144GP, 2.83GAA, .906sv%, 88-31-4-7 with Portland and Calgary) announced that he has accepted a position with TPH academy in Scottsdale, AZ. Following his WHL career the 1995-born goaltender spent four seasons with the University of Alberta Golden Bears program. He won a USports University Cup with the team in 2017-18.

Humphries signs with Lillehammer

Spencer Humphries (194GP, 17G, 76A with Tri-City and Calgary) has signed with Lillehammer IK of Norway’s top professional league. It will be his third season playing in the league as Humphries played two seasons with Stavanger Oilers in 2016-17 and 17-18. Last season he played with EC Kassel Huskies of the DEL2, Germany’s second-tier professional hockey league.

Raiders former Team President passes away

DUBNetwork would like to express their condolences to the Prince Albert Raiders hockey club as well as the family of their former Secretary, Team President, and Wall of Honour inductee Doug Winterton. Winterton served as team secretary from 1972 to 1979 before becoming Team President from 1979 to 1980. He was inducted as a builder onto the Raiders Wall of Honour on September 27, 2013, for his contributions to the organization.
