Wheat Kings sign Mantel

The Brandon Wheat Kings have signed their 2020 first-round bantam draft pick Quinn Mantei to his Standard Player Agreement. Playing for the Weyburn Whitecap Wings in the SBAAHL, Mantei tallied 20 goals and 30 assists in only 30 games from the blueline. Check out his DUBNetwork Scouting profile here. The Mantei signing leaves Kelowna Rockets eighth overall pick Andrew Cristall as the lone prospect yet to sign from the first round of the bantam draft. The Rockets, Everett Silvertips, and  Portland Winterhawks are the only clubs yet to sign a prospect from this year’s draft.

Plouffe commits to University of Alberta

Dylan Plouffe (307 GP, 32 G, 113 A with the Vancouver Giants and Medicine Hat Tigers from 2014-2020) will play his university hockey close to his hometown of Sherwood Park, Alberta as he has committed to the University of Alberta Golden Bears for the 2020-21 season.

Anholt named WHL Executive of the Year

Lethbridge Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt has been named the WHL Executive of the Year for the 2019-20 season. The Hurricanes finished third in the Central Division with a 37-19-2-5 record.

Americans extend season ticket deadline 

The Tri-City Americans have extended their season ticket renewal deadline to June 30th due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The team says staff will be reaching out to season ticket holders throughout May and June to discuss renewals.

Capitals terminate Leipsic’s contract

The Washington Capitals have terminated the contract of former Portland Winterhawks forward Brendan Leipsic after inappropriate comments he made in private conversations on Instagram were made public this week.

Padakin signs with Sochi

Pavel Padakin (206 GP, 76 G, 71 A with the Calgary Hitmen and Regina Pats from 2012-2015) has signed on with HK Sochi for his second stint with the club. In his first stint with the club, he recorded 15 goals and 28 assists in 105 games, earning a spot in the KHL All-Star Game.

Hanlon hired by Krefeld 

Former Vancouver Giants assistant coach and general manager Glen Hanlon has been hired by Krefeld Pinguine in Germany to be the team’s head coach for the 2020-21 season.

Rooney joins Millionaires

Mike Rooney, who has worked with the Saskatoon Blades, Swift Current Broncos, and Regina Pats as a scout during his career has joined the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL as the Head Coach and General Manager.

Former Pat Bob Gerrard passes away

Bob Gerrard (65 GP, 27 G, 23 A with the Regina Pats in 1970-1971) passed away recently at the age of 69. DUBNetwork sends its condolences to all those who knew him.
