Wheat Kings sign Johnson

The Brandon Wheat Kings have signed 2020 WHL Bantam Draft second-round pick Trae Johnson to his WHL Education Contract. Winterhawks parent company files for bankruptcy

Our friends over at The Oregonian reported on Saturday night that the Portland Winterhawks parent company filed for Chapter 15 bankruptcy on Thursday. According to the Portland paper, the issues stem from unpaid loans to Bridging Financing, which took control of the team earlier this month from Winterhawks owner William Gallacher. This could cause concern for Winterhawks fans if the club enters receivership for more than 10 days or if the franchise itself enters bankruptcy as that would allow the WHL to terminate the team’s ownership agreement. However, as pointed out by The Oregonian, neither of these things have happened at this point, nor do they appear likely to happen at this stage. Burman to join Golden Bears

The very reliable Victor Findlay reports on Twitter that Taz Burman (113 GP, 3.20 GAA, 0.897 save percentage, and a 44-37-6-4 record with the Red Deer Rebels, Swift Current Broncos and Seattle Thunderbirds from 2013-17) will be joining the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Burman had been a member of the now-defunct University of Lethbridge Pronghorns for the last two seasons playing in 26 games.
