Wheat Kings prospect chooses NCAA

Brandon Wheat Kings prospect Dylan James announced via Twitter that he has committed to play NCAA hockey at the University of North Dakota for the 2022/2023 season. The 15-year-old out of Calgary was the Wheat Kings’ second round pick, 37th overall in the 2018 bantam draft and has recorded 26 points in 27 games this season with the Calgary Buffaloes of the AMHL. James has also skated in two games with the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL, scoring a goal and an assist.

Raiders announce roster change

The Prince Albert Raiders announced a roster move on Wednesday with 17-year-old Bryce Bader leaving the team due to personal reasons. The former second round bantam pick was acquired from Calgary at the January 10th trade deadline along with a conditional sixth round pick in exchange for unsigned Quinn Olson and a conditional sixth round pick. Bader did not dress in a game for the Raiders but appeared in 10 games with the Hitmen, scoring four goals.

WHLers score at the Top Prospects Game

Kootenay ICE captain Peyton Krebs and Prince Albert Raiders star Brett Leason both had a goal and an assist in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Red Deer. Leason’s goal tied the game for Team Orr with just over three minutes left in regulation to help come back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Krebs’ Team Cherry by a score of 5-4.

  • Saskatoon Blades forward and Team Orr captain Kirby Dach recorded an assist.
  • Medicine Hat’s Mads Sogaard allowed one goal on 18 shots in his 30 minutes of work.
  • Prince George’s Taylor Gauthier stopped 12 of 16 shots in the second half for Team Cherry.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Portland’s Joachim Blichfeld scored twice and added an assist, including his 200th WHL point, in the Winterhawks’ 4-2 win over Tri-City in the only WHL game of the night.

2nd Star: Kootenay’s Peyton Krebs had a goal and an assist as well as Player of the Game for Team Cherry in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

3rd Star: Prince Albert’s Brett Leason tied the game late for Team Orr and added an assist in a 5-4 win over Team Cherry.

Tri-City’s Beck Warm had 42 saves in a losing effort….Portland’s Cody Glass had two helpers in the 4-2 win over the Americans….
