Daily Dose of the Dub: Warriors make roster moves, Brooks makes NHL debut and more

Sass added to the Warriors lineup

The oft-traveled Carson Sass has been picked up by the Moose Jaw Warriors following his placement on waivers by the Kelowna Rockets. It is Sass’ third team this season following a tryout with the Tri-City Americans, followed by a 31 game stint in Kelowna. He wore #22 in the lineup last night for the Warriors. The 20-year-old defenseman has played 234 WHL games collecting nine goals and adding 29 assists.

These moves followed the addition of Sass. Kobe Mohr was placed on waivers with the purpose of him reporting to the AJHL’s Drumheller Dragons. The Warriors were Mohr’s third WHL team this season, and he has already completed a stint with the Dragons where he collected five goals and six assists in eight games. He had two goals and assist with the Warriors.

Homola had been picked up by the Warriors following being selected then released by the Tri-City Americans. In 19 WHL contests he collected three assists.

Beaupit recalled to the Spokane Chiefs

Although he had just been sent back to the West Valley Giants (BCMML), Beaupit was recalled due to an injury to Campbell Arnold in Friday night’s action against the Seattle Thunderbirds. The 16-year-old goaltender had yet to see action in the WHL but has played 14 games with his Midget team. He was the starter in in Saturday night’s action against Tri-City.

Keegan Kolesar recalled by the Vegas Golden Knights

Kolesar (Seattle Thunderbirds 243GP 77G 90A) is in his third professional season in the Vegas Golden Knights system. The 2015 third-round draft pick has six assists in 18 games with the Chicago Wolves in 2019-2020.

ICE recall Conor Geekie

2004-born Geekie has been recalled to the Winnipeg ICE. The second overall pick in 2019 has played twice for the club this season, and has spent much of the season with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the MMHL. He has 17 goals and 16 assists in 24 games.

Adam Brooks makes NHL debut with Toronto Maple Leafs

With two full seasons and another 20 games this season under his belt, Brooks (Regina Pats 317GP 119G 216A) was placed in the lineup for the Maple Leafs last night. He had 4:50 of ice time in his debut and wore number 77.

Haden plays in his 200th WHL game

Playing with his third team, 20-year-old Gary Haden has reached the 200 game plateau. Tonight’s game was his 30th with the Royals and he has played 55 with the Saskatoon Blades and 115 with his original team the Medicine Hat Tigers. Haden has 68 career goals and 71 career assists.

Milos Roman hits milestone goal

In his 132nd WHL game, Roman scored his 50th goal as the Giants defeated the Kelowna Rockets. This season he has 13 goals and nine assists. He was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 CHL Import Draft.

Former Kelowna Rocket Simon Ferguson named interim Head Coach of the West Kelowna Rockets

Simon Ferguson (Lethbridge/Kelowna 1999-2004 319GP 61G 100A) was named the interim head coach of the West Kelowna Warriors for the remainder of the season. Brandon West was relieved of his head coaching duties. Ferguson also coached in the BCMML for the Okanagan Rockets in 2018-19.

WHLers at the IIHF World Junior Championships

  • Joel Hofer (POR) came into the Canada – Russia game in a mop-up role. He stopped 20 or 22 shots in Canada’s 6-0 loss.
  • Yegor Zamula (CGY) assisted on the fifth Russian goal. He has two goals and one assist in the tournament.
  • Libor Zabransky (MJ) scored in the Czech Republic’s 4-3 loss to Germany. It was his first point of the tournament.

1st Star – Jake Neighbours (EDM) scored three goals including the game winner and added an assist in an 8-3 win over Red Deer

2nd Star – Adam Beckman (SPO) scored three times in a 5-3 win over Tri-City

3rd Star –  Cole Fonstad (EVT) scored a goal and added three assists in a 7-5 win over the Kamloops Blazers

Scott Walford (SAS) scored twice and added an assist in a 6-3 win over Prince Albert. Logan Barlage (LETH) scored once and added three assists in a 6-0 win over Swift Current.
