Daily Dose of the Dub: Warriors acquire Joseph from Giants, Pats name leadership group and more

Warriors acquire Joseph from Giants

The Moose Jaw Warriors have filled out their overage group with the addition of Jadon Joseph from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a third-round pick in 2020 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2022, that could become a 2021 pick.

Joseph is six-foot-one and weighs 180 pounds bounced around the league last year spending time with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Regina Pats, and Vancouver Giants. In 68 regular-season games, he registered 22 goals and 23 assists.

Barring a surprise return from Justin Almeida (Pittsburgh Penguins signed prospect) or Josh Brook (Montreal Canadiens signed prospect) the Warriors appear to be entering the 2019-20 season with an overage group that will consist of Joseph, forward Luke Ormsby and goaltender Bailey Brkin. The Giants now have five overage players: forwards Milos Roman, Owen Hardy, and Brayden Watts, defenseman Dylan Plouffe, and goaltender David Tendeck. Roman and Tendeck could turn pro with the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes respectively. However, at this point it is likely they will both return to the WHL so the Giants will need to make at least two more moves.

Wheat Kings’ Hoffrogge headed back to midget

The Brandon Wheat Kings have sent 2003-born defenseman Jacob Hoffrogge back to midget where he will report to the Saskatoon Contacts of the SMHL. Last season with the Contacts, Hoffrogge recorded two goals and 14 assists in 39 games. He was originally selected by the Wheat Kings in the second round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

Pats’ Pratt named 79th captain in team history

The Regina Pats have named 1999-born forward Austin Pratt the 79th captain in franchise history. Pratt came over to the Pats in a trade with the Rebels in the 2017-18 season. In 89 games with the Pats, he has 25 goals and 30 assists. The Pats also announced that 19-year-old defenseman Kyle Walker, 18-year-old defenseman Nikita Sedov and 18-year-old forward Logan Nijhoff will be the alternate captains to round out the leadership group.

Wild re-sign Chiefs alumnus Spurgeon

The Minnesota Wild have re-signed defenseman Jared Spurgeon (266 GP, 37 G, 133 A with the Spokane Chiefs) to a seven-year contract extension. Last season with the Wild, Spurgeon notched 14 goals and 29 assists appearing in all 82 games for the first time in his NHL career.
