Team BC won’t be repeating as WHL Cup Champions after a tough 5-4 loss to Team Manitoba on Saturday in the semi-final. Carter Anderson (Red Deer Rebels) was the star for Manitoba with two goals. Denton Mateychuk (Moose Jaw Warriors) matched Anderson’s point totals with two assists.

Saskatchewan will be playing for gold for the first time ever at the WHL Cup thanks to a stunning 5-3 victory over Alberta who had been undefeated going into this game. Carter Dereniwsky (Victoria Royals) was a key factor in the triumph with a hat-trick.
McDonald breaks Oil Kings defenseman scoring record
With his 39th career goal for the Edmonton Oil Kings, Conner McDonald passed Aaron Irving for the franchise lead in goals among defensemen.

The Florida Panthers have acquired forward Jack Rodewald (255 GP, 76 G, 90 A with the Regina Pats and Moose Jaw Warriors) from the Ottawa Senators for forward Chris Wilkie. An undrafted free agent, Rodewald has played 10 NHL games with the Senators and has no points. Most of his pro career has been spent in the AHL where he has 55 goals and 46 assists in 209 games.

Travis Hamonic (181 GP, 29 G, 80 A with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Brandon Wheat Kings) played in his 600th NHL game as the Calgary Flames played in the Heritage Classic outdoor game against the Winnipeg Jets. Drafted in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders, Hamonic has scored 34 goals with 143 assists with the Islanders and Flames.

Jordy Bellerive (274 GP, 117 G, 150 A with the Lethbridge Hurricanes) scored his first AHL goal on Saturday as the Willkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins downed the San Antonio Rampage 5-4 in overtime.

Jake Leschyshyn (257 GP, 85 G, 95 A with the Regina Pats and Lethbridge Hurricanes) also notched his first professional goal into an empty net as the Chicago Wolves beat the Manitoba Moose 4-0.
