Daily Dose of the Dub: Two ICE players being tested for COVID-19, more teams send players home

Two ICE Players being tested for COVID-19

According to Mike Sawatzky at the Winnipeg Free Press, two players on the Winnipeg ICE are being tested for COVID-19 after showing symptoms for the new coronavirus. Both players have been in self-isolation for a couple of days and the remainder of the team has been allowed to return home. It’s important for us to state that neither player has tested positive for the virus and if the tests come back negative they will also be allowed to return home.

WHL clubs send players home

The Edmonton Oil Kings, Kelowna Rockets, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Medicine Hat Tigers, Red Deer Rebels, Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades, Spokane Chiefs, and Swift Current Broncos have all made the decision to send their players home amid COVID-19 concerns. They join the above-named Winnipeg ICE, as well as the Everett Silvertips, Kamloops Blazers and Prince George Cougars as teams we know have sent their players home. The WHL Board of Governors are expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss the future of the season.

Hitmen to provide compensation for part-time staff

Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, which owns the Calgary Hitmen, has announced a compensation program for part-time staff who are being left without work because of the shutdown of the WHL and NHL seasons after initially saying they wouldn’t be providing compensations. Oilers Entertainment Group, which owns the Edmonton Oil Kings, announced similar plans on Saturday.
