Racial incident affects Seattle Thunderbirds

A report of two players communicating inappropriate racial comments and actions towards a third player in the Seattle locker room was brought forward in the week leading up to the start of the team’s season. Two players have been removed from the team’s roster and Bil La Forge, Seattle’s General Manager, has said there will be no further comment on this issue.

In the aftermath of the situation that occurred in Seattle, DUBNetwork would like to take this opportunity to remind you all that forms of racism, sexism, bigotry, homophobia, and other types of discrimination should be condemned immediately. We are all upset at the situation that has occurred with the Seattle Thunderbirds and would like to express our thanks to the team for their handling of the situation in a swift manner.

Whitehead scores first WHL goal

At 13:01 of the second period in last night’s Regina Pats 5-3 win over the Prince Albert Raiders, 2004-born forward Braxton Whitehead scored his first WHL goal. His goal gave the Pats a 2-1 lead. Regina’s third-round pick at the 2019 WHL Draft was playing in his sixth WHL game.

Roersma scores first WHL goal

At 13:02 of the first period in last night’s Brandon Wheat Kings Winnipeg ICE, 2004-born forward Rylan Roersma scored his first WHL goal. His goal gave the Wheat Kings a 2-1 lead. Brandon’s first-round pick at the 2019 WHL Draft was playing in his sixth WHL game.

Feist scores first WHL goal

At 8:59 of the third period in last night’s Regina Pats 5-3 win over the Prince Albert Raiders, 2004-born defenseman Layton Feist scored his first WHL goal. His goal gave the Pats a 5-1 lead. Regina’s first-round pick at the 2019 WHL Draft was playing in his seventh WHL game.

WHL releases final segment of Central Division schedule

The five-team Central Division was the only division without a schedule for the entire 24-game season until today when the WHL and the teams rectified the situation. The remaining schedule will be completed by May 7 and will see the teams add some Monday and Wednesday games.

There has not been an announcement regarding any potential playoffs or playoff dates.

Baird receives promotion with Chiefs

The Spokane Chiefs announced on Thursday that assistant director of Hockey Operations, Chris Baird, has been promoted to Director of Hockey Operations. Baird was originally hired as a part-time video coordinator in 2006-07 and has most recently handled player administration and video analysis since 2017.

Ottenbreit signs one-year contract with Iowa Wild

Defenseman Turner Ottenbreit (284GP, 24G, 84A with Saskatoon and Seattle ’13-’18) has signed a one-year AHL Standard Player Contract with the Iowa Wild. Ottenbreit had spent 30 games with the Wild last season on loan from the Allen Americans. He scored one goal and added an assist in those 30 games. This season, Ottenbreit has played 23 games with the Allen Americans, scoring two goals and adding six assists. He has also appeared in one game with the Wild. Ottenbreit was a member of the 2016-17 Ed Chynoweth Cup winning Seattle Thunderbirds.

CHL unveils jersey design contest

The Canadian Hockey League announced that they will be running a ‘Design a CHL Home Jersey” contest from now until May 6, 2021. The contest will give participants the opportunity to see their jersey become an actual game jersey in a game to be played in the 2020-21 season. Stone recalled to Flames taxi squad

Defenseman Michael Stone (264GP, 52G, 149A with Calgary ’06-’10) has been recalled by the Calgary Flames to serve on the team’s taxi squad. Stone has yet to appear in an NHL game this season, and in four games with the Stockton Heat he has two goals. Stone was selected in the third round of the 2008 NHL Draft by the then Phoenix Coyotes. Stone was a WHL champion with the 2009-10 Calgary Hitmen.

Doetzel placed on team suspension

Defenseman Kayel Doetzel (292GP, 5G, 49A with Red Deer ’11-’16) has been placed on team suspension by the Allen Americans. through 28 games this season, Doetzel has one goal and six assists. This is his second season with the team. The move enables the Americans to retain Doetzel’s ECHL rights.
