Daily Dose of the Dub: Team Manitoba announces leadership group for CWG; Rebels forward reaches 300 games

Manitoba announces leadership

Team Manitoba named their leadership group ahead of the 2019 Canada Winter Games, including four WHL prospects. Kootenay ICE prospect Carson Lambos will captain the team, with Eric Alarie (Moose Jaw), Aidan Brook (Medicine Hat), and Grady Lane (Spokane) as the assistant captains.

Lambos was the second overall pick in 2018 and has appeared in five WHL games this season, collecting a goal. This season with Rink Hockey Academy Prep he has played in 21 games, recording 28 points (14G, 14A).

Alarie, who is teammates with Lambos, was the Warriors’ first round pick (22nd overall) last year and has seen action in two WHL games going pointless. With RHA Prep he has 36 points (13G, 23A) in 25 games.

Brook, who is the younger brother of Warriors defenceman Josh Brook, was originally selected in the fourth round (76th overall) by Seattle before being a part of a January 4th trade that sent him to Medicine Hat with picks in exchange for Henrik Rybinski. He has 24 points (1G, 23A) in 34 games with RHA Elite 15s.

Lane was Spokane’s eighth round selection (156th overall) in last year’s bantam draft and has been playing for the Southwest Cougars Midget AAA of the MMHL and has 12 points (5G, 7A) in 32 games this season.

Rebels forward reaches milestone

Red Deer Rebels forward Jeff de Wit skated in his 300th WHL game in Friday’s loss to Seattle. The Red Deer native has split time with Regina, Victoria, Kootenay along with two stints with the Rebels, collecting 109 points (54G, 55A) in his career. He was originally drafted by Red Deer in 2013, 14th overall.

Former Edmonton Oil Kings captain Curtis Lazar has been recalled by the Calgary Flames from Stockton of the AHL. He has spent the entire season so far with Stockton, recording 36 points (16G, 20A) in 46 games prior to the call up. With the Oil Kings he won two WHL championships and a Memorial Cup in 2014 and was drafted by Ottawa 17th overall in 2013.
