Smith heads to Spokane

Medicine Hat Tigers Assistant Coach Ryan Smith has moved onto become an Associate Coach with the Spokane Chiefs. Smith will be joining his third WHL team following stints with the Swift Current Broncos and aforementioned Tigers. The Winnipeg, MB native also played in the WHL, scoring one goal and adding two assists in seven games as a member of the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Turgeon earns extension with Red Wings

Dominic Turgeon (259GP, 67G, 85A with Portland ’11-’16) has signed a one-year contract to remain in the Detroit Red Wings organization. Last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Turgeon played 63 games, where he scored 10 goals and added 13 assists. It will be his fifth season with the organization that drafted him in the third round in 2014. Turgeon was a member of the 2012-13 team that won the ED Chynoweth Cup, as well as a 2016 Calder Cup (AHL) Champion.

Gurney signs with BCHL’s Smoke Eaters

Justyn Gurney (175GP, 10G, 21A with Calgary, Regina, and Everett ’16-’20) has signed for his overage season with the Trail Smoke Eaters. Last season Gurney spent with the Everett Silvertips and played in 60 games, scoring six goals and adding 12 assists.

Kirkland re-signs with Flames

Justin Kirkland (199GP, 71G, 98A with Kelowna ’11-’16) has re-signed with the Calgary Flames for one year. Last season Kirkland played for the Stockton Heat (AHL) and scored six times while adding 22 assists over 53 games. Kirkland won the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the 2014-15 Rockets following being drafted by the Nashville Predators in the third round in 2014.
