Daily Dose of the Dub: Silvertips clinch division; Byram ties franchise record

Everett clinches division

For the third consecutive season, and fourth in five years, the Everett Silvertips have clinched the US Division after Portland’s loss to Kelowna on Sunday. In that five year span, they’ve made it past the Western Conference semi-final once, last season when they lost to Swift Current in the WHL finals in six games. The defending Western Conference champions (44-14-2-2) are currently tied with the Vancouver Giants for top spot in the West with both teams having six games remaining.

Byram ties record

Vancouver Giants defenceman Bowen Byram tied the franchise record for goals in a season by a defenceman with his 24th of the season which was the overtime winner in a 5-4 win over Kamloops. The record was previously set by current Arizona Coyotes Kevin Connauton back in the 2009/10 season. The 2019 NHL top prospect is now up to 66 points (24G, 42A) in 62 games this season.

Orchard gets first goal

Kamloops Blazers forward Jerzy Orchard scored his first WHL goal in an overtime loss to Vancouver. Originally drafted by the Blazers in the fifth round (110th overall), in 2016 and has skated in 35 games this season with two assists to go with his first goal.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Vancouver’s Milos Roman had two goals and two assists in a 5-4 overtime win over Kamloops.

2nd Star: Calgary’s Carson Focht had his second hat trick in four games in a 6-2 win over Kootenay.

3rd Star: Seattle’s Matthew Wedman had two goals, including the game winner, and added an assist in a 6-3 win over Tri-City.
