Scott leaves Oil Kings for personal reasons

Goaltender Todd Scott has left the Edmonton Oil Kings organization for personal reasons. It has been reported by multiple individuals that he is opting to return to the USHL where he played seven games with the Sioux City Musketeers in the 2016-17 season. Scott joined the WHL’s Vancouver Giants in 2017-18 and would go on to play 68 games in the WHL with the Giants and Oil Kings over three seasons. He played 18 games in Edmonton this year posting a 3.13 GAA and .894 save percentage.

In a corresponding move, the Oil Kings recalled Kolby Hay from the CSSHL’s Yale Hockey Academy. A third-round pick of the Oil Kings in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, Hay has played eight games this year and has a 3.66 GAA and .895 save percentage. Connor Martin, formerly of the Victoria Royals, has also been added to the Oil Kings roster although there has been no official announcement from the team. He’s played 21 games for the AJHL’s Calgary Canucks recording a 4.88 GAA and .879 save percentage.

The Spokane Chiefs have signed 2002-born defenseman Mac Gross to a WHL Education Contract. Drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, Gross has a goal and nine assists in 37 games with the SJHL’s Kindersley Klippers this season.
World Juniors Update
- Winnipeg’s Michal Teply had three assists and Seattle’s Simon Kubicek scored a goal as the Czech Republic upset Russia 4-3 in a huge win for the hosts. Calgary’s Yegor Zamula tallied two goals in defeat for Russia.
- Kelowna’s Nolan Foote scored a goal and Spokane’s Ty Smith added an assist as Canada beat the Americans 6-4.

The Calgary Hitmen have recalled defenseman Tyson Galloway from the BCHL’s Merritt Centennials. A second-round pick in 2018, Galloway has two goals and three assists in 27 games with Merritt this season.

Beau McCue (270 GP, 85 G, 85 A with the Tri-City Americans from 2012-16) has signed with the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits. McCue played one game in the ECHL to start the year with the Jacksonville IceMen before joining the SPHL’s Fayetteville Marksmen recording five goals and five assists in 14 games.

Dante Hannoun (314 GP, 108 G, 171 A with the Victoria Royals and Prince Albert Raiders from 2013-19) has signed with HC Bolzano in Italy for the rest of this season. He started the year with the ECHL’s Atlanta Gladiators scoring five goals and 14 assists in 24 games.
