Saskatoon Blades overage import Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen won’t be returning to the Blades for his final season of junior eligibility as he has signed a contract with HC Dalen in Sweden’s Division 1 League. A seventh-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2017, Roykas-Marthinsen played one season with the Blades seeing action in 62 games with 13 goals and 16 assists. With HC Dalen, Roykas-Marthinsen will be playing alongside his older brother Andreas Roykas-Marthinsen.
With Roykas-Marthinsen signing in Sweden, both Libor Zabransky and Radek Kucerik will be allowed to suit up for the Blades after being selected in the 2019 CHL Import Draft. The Blades other import in the 2018-19 CHL season, Emil Malysjev was released by the Blades earlier this summer. He had three goals and 14 assists in 63 games.

Spokane Chiefs goaltending coach Ryan Cyr (155 GP with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Saskatoon Blades) is leaving the organization after eight seasons to join the 50 Below Sports + Entertainment Grou who owns the WHL’s Winnipeg ICE. Cyr is the co-founder of RINK Goalie Development and the president of the RINK Training Centre which is owned by the 50 below Sports + Entertainment group.

Switzerland has announced the roster for their U-20 team which will compete in a tournament in Finland next week. The roster includes Gilian Kohler (56 GP, 8 G, 12 A with the Kootenay ICE) and Inaki Baragano (Kamloops Blazers 2019 Import Draft Pick).

Richard Matvichuk (182 GP, 35 G, 100 A with the Saskatoon Blades) has been appointed Hockey Director of Burnaby Winter Club. The Edmonton native had spent the last two and a half seasons as the Head Coach of the WHL’s Prince George Cougars before being relieved of his duties partway through last season. Under Mativchuk, the Cougars won a B.C. Division title in his first season before embarking on their current rebuild.

Defenseman Mirco Mueller (123 GP, 11 G, 47 A with the Everett Silvertips) has signed a one-year extension with the New Jersey Devils. Selected in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks, Mueller has played 135 NHL games with three goals and 18 assists.

Brad Cole (232 GP, 21 G, 42 A with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Kootenay ICE, and Saskatoon Blades) has retired from professional hockey to coach at Briercrest College and Seminary in Saskatchewan. Cole’s pro career spanned 12 seasons and concluded last season with the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks of the NCHL where he registered five goals and 23 assists in 14 games.
