Trio of Royals prospects sign Standard Player Agreements

The Victoria Royal announced yesterday that they had signed a trio of their 2020 WHL Bantam Draft selections to Standard Player Agreements. Anthony Wilson was drafted in the third round 59th overall. The forward played last season with the Northern Alberta Bantam Prep team scoring nine goals and adding 18 assists. Defenseman Nate Misskey was taken just five picks later and played last season with Pacific Coast Academy Bantam Prep, posting eight goals and 22 assists. Reggie Newman was a fourth-round pick, 72nd overall. The forward played last season with the Yale Hockey Academy Bantam Prep team, scoring nine goals and adding 13 assists.

Former Raider joins Ottawa Senators Community Foundation

Chris Phillips (119GP, 17G 71A with Prince Albert and Lethbridge) has joined the recently formed Senators Community Foundation. Phillips retired from the NHL following the 2015-16 season after spending 18 seasons on the Senators roster, missing only one season, the 2004-05 season when the NHL locked out its players. Phillips won two IIHF World Junior Championships, two silvers at the World Championships, and a WHL Championship with Lethbridge.

Winkler signs with HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck

Dario Winkler (59GP, 7G, 5A with Brandon and Everett) has signed with HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck of the IceHL. Last season Winkler was on loan to the Vienna Capitals last season and potted two goals while contributing five assists in 43 games.

Kris Foucault (195GP, 56G, 55A with Swift Current, Kootenay, and Calgary) has signed on with the Krefeld Pinguine for the 2020-21 season. It is his third team in the DEL following three seasons with Grizzlys Wolfsburg and one with ERC Ingolstadt. Last season in 52 games with ERC Ingolstadt, Foucault scored 16 goals and added 26 assists. He won a WHL Championship with the Hitmen in 2009-10. Foucault was a 2009 NHL draft pick of the Minnesota Wild and managed to play one game with the NHL club. He also played for their AHL affiliate in Houston/Iowa.

Dustin Friesen retires

Dustin Friesen (258GP, 26G, 55A with Swift Current) has retired from hockey to pursue a coaching position in coaching at an academy in Saskatchewan. Friesen played in 52 games last season, his sixth with ERC Ingolstadt, scoring once and adding seven assists. He signed with Iserlohn Roosters in April but did not step on the ice with the team.

Kral loaned to HC Prerov

Filip Kral (154GP, 31G, 89A with Spokane) has been lent to HC Prerov of the Czech2 league by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kral was a fifth-round pick of the Leafs in 2018.
