Lamb gets first WHL goal

Victoria Royals prospect Noah Lamb scored the first goal of his WHL career in the Royals’ Game 5 win over Kamloops. The Edmonton native was originally selected in the sixth round (118th overall) in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft and spent this season with the Knights of Columbus Pats Midget AAA where he had 16 points (4G, 12A)  and 74 penalty minutes in 31 games. He also skated in seven regular season games with Victoria during this campaign, going pointless, and has a goal and an assist in five first round games.

Teams Advance

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Tri-City Americans by a score of 9-1 on Saturday to take the series four games to one. This marks the fifth consecutive season that the Silvertips have advanced past the first round, including a trip to the WHL final last season. The Silvertips were led by Bryce Kindopp and Martin Fasko-Rudas who had nine and eight points respectively in the five games. The Silvertips (47-16-3-2) will now face the Spokane Chiefs (40-21-2-5) after they eliminated Portland in five games on Saturday.

As just mentioned, the Spokane Chiefs defeated the Portland Winterhawks 4-1 to win the series four games to one. Riley Woods had eight points (4G, 4A) in the five games, as well as Luke Toporowski who had five points (4G, 1A) in four games.

The Vancouver Giants won Game 6 by a score of 5-1 to beat Seattle four games to two and will face the winner of the Victoria/Kamloops series which the Royals lead 3-2. Giants forward Davis Koch currently leads the WHL in playoff scoring with 10 points (1G, 9A) in six games, Jadon Joseph leads the league in playoff goals with six goals in six games.

Brook to AHL

Moose Jaw Warriors captain Josh Brook  made his professional debut with the Laval Rocket of the AHL, recording a shot on goal and a -1 rating. The 19-year-old was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round (56th overall) in 2017 and signed with them back in September. This season with Moose Jaw this season, he had 75 points (16G, 59A) in 59 games.

Johnson and Hagel make their pro debuts for the Rockford IceHogs

Following the end of their season, both Reese Johnson and Brandon Hagel made their AHL debuts with the Rockford IceHogs. Hagel had four shots while Reese Johnson was a -1 and added two minutes in the sin bin. They played against another former Rebel in Turner Elson.

Caribou Cougars win BCMML Championship with WHL prospects

There are three signed WHL prospects on the the Caribou Cougars that play in Prince George, BC. They include Goaltender Xaiver Cannon (Tri-City Americans), Forward Booker Daniel (Tri-City Americans) and Defenseman Jacob Gendron (Vancouver Giants). Congratulations to the Cougars on a successful season.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Victoria’s Phillip Schultz had a hat trick and an assist in the Royals’ 6-3 win over Kamloops to take a 3-2 series lead.

2nd Star: Everett’s Bryce Kindopp also had a hat trick and an assist in a 9-1 win over the Americans to advance to the second round.

3rd Star: Calgary captain Mark Kastelic had two goals and an assist in a 6-5 win over the Hurricanes to take a 3-2 series lead.
