The Kelowna Rockets signed 2020 first-round pick Andrew Cristall to a Standard Player Agreement. That means, in a little over three weeks since this year’s WHL Bantam Draft, the entire first round of the draft has now signed Standard Player Agreement with their respective teams. Hockey Canada released an open letter on Thursday updating members and fans alike on the current plan to return to hockey. The letter stresses that Hockey Canada is not going to rush the process and that all decisions will be made by public health officials. They also say that when hockey returns, it will look different than it has in the past. It will be interesting to see what exactly that entails in the weeks and months to come.

For the first time in league history, a Portland Winterhawk takes home the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player Award with Seth Jarvis taking home the honours. The award is named after Brad Hornung who is third cousins with former Portland Winterhawks Todd Hornung who played in a Winterhawks uniform from 1995-1998 winning a WHL Championship and Memorial Cup.

Adam Brooks (317 GP, 119 G, 216 A with the Regina Pats from 2012-17) has signed a two-year contract extension with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. The 2019-20 season saw Brooks get into his first NHL games finishing the year with three assists in seven games.

Mark Rubinchik(130 GP, 4 G, 42 A with the Saskatoon Blades from 2016-18) has signed a one-year contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL. He spent the 2019-20 season with Toros Neftekamsk in the Russian VHL recording one goal and six assists in 44 games.

Brett Jaeger (110 GP, 3.74 GAA, 0.886 Save Percentage, and a 34-55-1 record with the Medicine Hat Tigers, Vancouver Giants, and Saskatoon Blades from 2000-2004) has signed with the Hannover Scorpions in Germany on a one-year deal. He suited up for 28 games with the Bayreuth Tigers in 2019-20 recording a 7-17-0 record, 3.08 GAA, and .896 Save Percentage.
