Daily Dose of the Dub: Rockets release Porter from active roster, Cougars release Woodside from tryout and more

Rockets release Porter from active roster

The Kelowna Rockets have released James Porter from the active roster and he’s expected to report to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. During his time in Kelowna, he posted a record of 30-22-7-2 with a 3.29 GAA and .897 Save percentage in 73 games. With the acquisition of Cole Schweibus in the off-season, Porter had not seen much playing time this year. This move allows him to get important game action while allowing the Rockets to retain his WHL rights.

Cougars release Woodside from try-out

The Prince George Cougars have released goaltender Carter Woodside from a three-game try-out. He did not see any game action with the Cougars and will now return to the Princeton Posse of the KIJHL.

Tri-City Americans forward Nikita Krivokrasov has been suspended one game for a kneeing incident that took place in Saturday’s game against the Vancouver Giants. He’ll miss Friday’s game in Calgary against the Hitmen and be eligible to return on Saturday against the Hurricanes in Lethbridge.

Okuliar named WHL Player of the Week

It was the obvious choice for Player of the Week this week as Oliver Okuliar had back-to-back hat-trick games this week to help him surpass his goal total from last year in the QMJHL. If you’re wondering who was the last Hurricane to record hat-tricks in back-to-back games you’d have to back to 2007 when Mitch Fadden did it. His final stat line for the week reads seven goals and one assist and he’s now on a seven-game goal streak and eight-game point streak

Hofer named WHL Goaltender of the Week

With a record of 2-0-0-0, 0.90 GAA and .969 Save Percentage, Portland Winterhawks goaltender Joel Hofer has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week. This is his second time winning the award and puts him in a good position as we edge closer to the WHL leg of the CHL-Russia Series.

Day Three of World U-17 Challenge

Day Three of the World U-17 Challenge saw Team Canada Black continue their undefeated streak with a shootout win over the Czech Republic. Moose Jaw Warriors prospect Corson Ceulemans, who is currently committed to the University of Wisconsin had an assist.

Also on Monday, Canada Red dropped a 4-2 decision to Sweden thanks to a 50-save performance from Swedish netminder Carl Lindbom.

Medicine Hat Tigers forward Cole Sillinger had an impressive performance against the Americans with two goals in front of the familiar Canalta Centre crowd. However, it was not enough for his Canada White squad to pick up a victory as the Americans held on for a 6-4 win.

In the lone non-Canadian game on Monday, Finland defeated Russsia 5-4 in a shootout.
