Daily Dose of the Dub: Rockets acquire Joseph in blockbuster trade, Broncos and Giants swap defensemen and more

Rockets acquire Joseph from Warriors

The Kelowna Rockets have acquired 1999-born forward Jadon Joseph from the Moose Jaw Warriors for 1999-born forward Kobe Mohr, 2001-born forward Kyle Crosbie and 2000-born goaltender James Porter along with a third-round pick in the 2022 WHL Bantam Draft.

Joseph joined the Warriors in an off-season move from the Vancouver Giants and suited up for 21 games recording seven goals and six assists. He’s played 209 career games in the WHL and has 41 goals and 72 assists with 120 penalty minutes to go along with it. The Rockets now have Joseph, Leif MattsonCarson Sass and the injured Kyle Topping as their overagers. They’ll be able to hold on to all four until Topping’s return in mid-late January but will have to make a move after that.

Mohr started the year with the Kamloops Blazers but was released after six games in which he notched a goal and two assists. He reported to the AJHL’s Drumheller Dragons where he tallied six goals and five assists in eight games before being picked up by Kelowna. Since joining Kelowna he has a goal and three assists in nine games. In 256 WHL games, he has 33 goals and 65 assists with 244 penalty minutes.

An eighth-round pick of the Rockets in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, Crosbie hasn’t made a huge impact in the WHL, recording eight goals and six assists in assists in 76 games. He’s played 12 games this year and has a goal and two assists.

After playing 72 games over the last two seasons, Porter struggled to get into the Rockets net this season before he was released to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. He’s played three games with Vernon and has posted a 2.38 GAA and .919 save percentage.

Broncos and Giants swap defensemen

The Swift Current Broncos have acquired 2000-born defenseman Kaleb Bulych, older brother to Broncos defenseman Aiden Bulych, from the Vancouver Giants for defenseman Connor Horning. Our Stephen Hawco has a full breakdown of the trade that you can read here.

Ritchie out indefinitely

The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that Nolan Ritchie will be out indefinitely after he broke his leg in Friday’s game against the Calgary Hitmen when he fell awkwardly into the boards. He underwent successful surgery on Saturday and is expected to make a full recovery, although there is no timetable for his return to Brandon’s lineup. In 24 games this season, he scored five goals and added six assists.
