The Edmonton Oil Kings acquired goaltender Beck Warm, who is the twin brother of former Oil King Will Warm, and forward Riley Stuart from the Tri-City Americans for forward Cade Littler, goaltender Carter Gylander, a 2021 second-round bantam draft pick and a 2022 fourth-round bantam draft pick. Seattle Thunderbirds forward Matthew Rempe was handed a one-game suspension for this knee-on-knee collision with Portland’s Jaydon Dureau. Dureau did leave the game for a short period of time but did return to the ice in the third period.

Tyson Feist made his return to the Regina Pats lineup after being out since December 11th with an injury. Kyle Walker missed the game with an illness.

Brendan Kuny was in the lineup for the Edmonton Oil Kings on New Year’s Day as Tyler Horstmann is sidelined with an injury. He’s considered day-to-day so his recovery should be a speedy one.

The Winnipeg ICE recalled Chase Bertholet from the Prince Albert Mintos of the SMHL. Bertholet has played three games with the ICE this season but has yet to register a point. In 26 games, he’s put up matching numbers in goals and assists with 10 in each category.

The Regina Pats released defenseman Steven Zonneveld from the active roster. The 18-year-old Calgary native has played in five games this year with Regina but has been held pointless. He’s expected to report to the AJHL’s Drumheller Dragons.

The weekly CHL power rankings were back on Wednesday with the Portland Winterhawks climbing to the third spot, the Everett Silvertips fell to #4, the Edmonton Oil Kings held on to the eighth spot and the Medicine Hat Tigers fell to #10. The Lethbridge Hurricanes also made an appearance as an Honourable Mention.

Kamloops Blazers prospects Connor Levis (2019 first-round pick) and Fraser Minten (2019 fourth-round pick) were on the ice at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops to kick off the new year. Neither player has signed their WHL Education Contract as of this writing but this is certainly a good sign for Blazers fans. Levis does have a commitment to the University of Michigan in the NCAA which he would have to forego if he decides to sign with Kamloops.

First Star: Winnipeg’s Owen Pederson scored two goals and added two assists.
Second Star: Winnipeg’s Connor McClennon scored a goal and two assists.
Third Star: Victoria’s Shane Farkas made 29 saves in a 1-0 shutout over the Vancouver Giants.

Regina’s Max Paddock made 29 saves on 30 shots in a 2-1 win over Prince Albert.
