Daily Dose of the Dub: Oil Kings sign Van Olm, Thunderbirds and Royals continuing handing out team awards

Oil Kings sign Van Olm

The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed forward Shea Van Olm to a WHL Education Contract. Van Olm was drafted in the sixth round of last year’s bantam draft and at the time was five-foot-nine and weighed in at 150 pounds. Since then, he’s grown four inches to six-foot-one and has put on over 20 pounds to get to 171 pounds. That’s a testament to how difficult it is to scout in this league as a player can grow dramatically in just one year. Van Olm played in the AMHL this year for the Calgary NWCAA Stampeders Minor Midget team. He potted 35 goals and 25 assists in 35 games to lead the team in scoring and he also had 147 penalty minutes to go along with it.

The Seattle Thunderbirds handed out their third team award on Thursday naming Brendan Williamson the 2019-20 Scholastic Player of the Year. The team previously named Kelti Jeri-Leon the Humanitarian of the Year and Most Dedicated Player of the Year.

Oliver receives award from Royals

The Victoria Royals handed out one of their team awards on Thursday as they named Kaid Oliver this year’s most dedicated player.
