The Edmonton Oil Kings added a veteran presence to their blueline on Sunday bringing in 19-year-old defenseman Samuel Stewart from the Tri-City Americans for a fourth-round pick in the 2023 WHL Bantam Draft. Stewart has played in his entire WHL career to date with the Americans tallying two goals and 29 assists in 109 games.
Hughes out with “lower-ankle sprain”
Sounds like Ryan Hughes is dealing with more of a lower-ankle sprain, head coach Shaun Clouston estimates a couple weeks off for the 20-year old.

Saskatoon Blades forward Zach Huber has been suspended two games for what the league is calling “supplemental discipline” for an incident that took place Friday against Prince Albert. He missed the second half of the back-to-back with Prince Albert and will miss the first game of the New Year against Winnipeg before being eligible to return on Friday against Red Deer.

Edmonton Oil Kings rookie Dylan Guenther participated in the “Fastest Skater” portion of the Edmonton Oilers Skills Competition. His time of 15.2 seconds was only 1.2 seconds shy of the time from Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

Pogge terminates his contract in Sweden
Justin Pogge (Prince George, Calgary, 2003-2006) exercised his clause to terminate his contract with Södertälje (Sweden, Allsvenskan). His contract with Södertälje has a clause that allows him to leave to sign with a club outside Sweden. 10 GP, 6-4-0, 2.38 GAA, .905 SP, 2 SO.

Justin Pogge (151 GP, 79-44-7-4, 2.29 GAA and .911 save percentage with the Prince George Cougars and Calgary Hitmen from 2003-2006) has terminated his contract with Swedish club Sodertalje. In 10 games this season he posted a 6-4-0 record with 2.38 GAA and .905 save percentage. Online reports suggest he is signing in Germany but there doesn’t seem to be anything official out there as of yet.

Kris Knoblauch (formerly of the Prince Albert Raiders and Kootenay ICE coaching staff) and Jay Varady (formerly of the Everett Silvertips coaching staff) have been named head coaches for the AHL All-Star Classic. Knoblauch, now with the Hartford Wolf Pack, will coach the Atlantic Division while Varady, now with the Tuscon Roadrunners, will coach the Pacific Division.
