The Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired 20-year old forward Riley Sawchuk from the Tri-City Americans for a 2021 third round pick. In 2018-19, Sawchuk recorded career highs in goals (20), assists (33) and points (53) in 67 regular season. Sawchuk is the seventh overager currently on the Edmonton Oil Kings. Trey Fix-Wolansky will likely turn pro within the Columbus Blue Jackets organization which will leave the Oil Kings with six players competing for the three overage spots in the Oil Kings organization.

The last pick in the first round of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft has become the first to sign his WHL Standard Player Agreement as the Prince Albert Raiders have announced the signing of forward Niall Crocker. Crocker played this season at the Delta Hockey Academy and had 18 goals and 27 assists in 30 games.

The Everett Silvertips have signed 19-year-old goaltender Keegan Karki to a standard player agreement. Karki was the 5th ranked North-American goalie by NHL Central Scouting for the 2018 NHL Draft after playing 41 games for the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks and posting a 3.50 GAA and .882 save percentage. Karki went undrafted in the 2018 NHL Draft and due to an injury-riddled season was limited to just five games with the Lumberjacks and the NAHL’s Corpus Christi IceRays.
Graduating Barberis commits to Carleton University
The Carleton Ravens have brought in another major junior addition too. Kelowna Rockets D-Man Matt Barberis will join the Ravens for '19-20. Was limited to just 20 GP w/Vancouver + Kelowna this year, but if he stays healthy he's easily a top 4 D for Carleton.

Graduating defenseman Matt Barberis has committed to Carleton University to play for the Ravens next season. His WHL career was riddled by injuries but he did get into 179 games with the Vancouver Giants and Kelowna Rockets scoring 21 goals and adding 65 assists.

WHL alumni were notified that they have until July 14th to opt out of a class-action lawsuit that claims WHL players are employees of the clubs they play for and is hoping to obtain employment benefits such as minimum wage and overtime for those players. The lawsuit is being led by former WHLers Travis McEvoy (193 GP, 23 G, 26 A with the Saskatoon Blades, Vancouver Giants, and Portland Winterhawks) and Kyle O’Connor (132 GP, 10 G, 12 A with the Kootenay ICE). Players who played in BC between October 30, 2012, and February 14, 2016, or in Alberta or Manitoba between October 30, 2012, and April 18, 2017, or who played in Saskatchewan between October 30, 2012, and April 29, 2014, or players that were under 18 on October 30, 2012 (except in BC where it is 18) will be included in the lawsuit unless they decide to opt-out. Kamloops Minor Hockey Association has hired WHL alumni and current Kamloops Blazers assistant coach Aaron Keller. Keller played 269 games in the WHL scoring 49 goals and 200 assists with the Kamloops Blazers. Keller spent most of his pro career in Japan before returning to Kamloops for the 2017-18 season to be the assistant coach with the organization.

The Prince George Cougars announced the sudden passing of corporate sales manager Gary Samis on Thursday. On top of his role as a corporate sales manager, Samis also served as Chairperson for the Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament and was also integral in launching the Prince George Cougars Alumni Association.
