Royals sign first-round pick Zemlak

The Victoria Royals signed ninth overall pick Austin Zemlak to his WHL Education Contract on Friday. Playing for OHA Edmonton Bantam Prep his eight goals and 28 assists in 27 games was good enough for second on the team and he finished in first in assists. Here is his DUBNetwork Scouting profile.

Hitmen sign Tulk

The Calgary Hitmen signed 12th overall pick Oliver Tulk to his WHL Education Contract. He suited up for Delta Hockey Academy Bantam Prep Green in 2019-20 recording 27 goals and 42 assists in 30 games. He is also the cousin of former Tri-City Americans and Red Deer Rebels star Terry Ryan. You can find his DUBNetwork Scouting Profile here. 

Broncos sign Birnie 

The Swift Current Broncos have signed 2020 first-round pick Brady Birnie to his WHL Education Contract. Last season he notched an incredible 56 goals and 72 assists in just 31 games playing for the Regina Monarchs in the SBAAHL. Sign up for DUBNetwork Scouting and check out his profile here. 

Giants sign second-round pick Halaburda

Chadwick signs with Hurricanes

Noah Chadwick signed his WHL Education Contract with the Lethbridge Hurricanes after they selected him in the second round of the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft. Chadwick, who is the younger brother of Saskatoon Blades prospect Ethan Chadwick played 21 games with the Saskatoon Stallions Bantam AA in 2019-20 scoring nine goals and adding 33 assists. Thunderbirds sign Ratzlaff

The Seattle Thunderbirds signed 2020 second-round pick Scott Ratzlaff on Friday. The Alberta native saw action in 17 games with the Lloydminster Bobcats Bantam AAA team in 2019-20 posting a 9-5 record with two shutouts and a 2.41 GAA and .899 Save Percentage. ICE sign 2019 seventh-round pick

The Winnipeg ICE signed 2019 seventh-round pick Hayden Pakkala to his WHL Education Contract. Pakkala, who will be eligible to play for the ICE the next time they hit the rink, had 34 goals and 58 assists in 35 games for the Okotoks Oilers in the AMMHL.

Wolf signs in NHL

Everett Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf has signed an entry-level contract with the NHL’s Calgary Flames. The 2001-born netminder was drafted by the Flames in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He’ll be back with the Silvertips next season looking to build off his 34-10-2 record with a 1.88 GAA and .935 Save Percentage in 46 games in 2019-20.

Zabransky signs in the Czech Republic

Libor Zabransky (159 GP, 8 G, 41 A with the Kelowna Rockets, Saskatoon Blades, Moose Jaw Warriors, and Kamloops Blazers from 2017-20) has signed a one year contract with Brno in the Czech Republic. The 2000-born defenseman would’ve been eligible to return to Kamloops for his overage season in 2020-21 but instead will go play for his dad also named Libor who is the coach/owner of Brno.

WHL to start announcing awards on Monday

The WHL announced on Friday that they will be rolling out the 2020 Awards on a daily basis starting with Top Scorer and Regular Season Champions awards on Monday and concluding with WHL Player of the Year Award on May 20th.

Hrbas signs three-year deal in the Czech Republic

Marek Hrbas (196 GP, 14 G, 52 A with the Edmonton Oil Kings and Kamloops Blazers from 2010-13) has signed a three-year contract extension with Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic. Last season he registered seven goals and 11 assists in 52 games.

Minulin signs two-year extension in Russia

Artyom Minulin (257 GP, 27 G, 117 A with the Swift Current Broncos and Everett Silvertips from 2015-2019) has signed a two-year contract extension with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL. Last season he played 21 games for the Russia-based team and was held pointless.

Pulpan signs two-year contract with Karlovy Vary 

Lukas Pulpan (69 GP, 8 G, 25 A with the Vancouver Giants in 2003-04) has signed a two-year contract with Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. He suited up for Plzen in 2019-20 putting up three goals and eight assists in 38 games.

Vorobyov signs with CSKA Moscow

Kirill Vorobyov (53 GP, 1 G, 4 A with the Portland Winterhawks in 2012-13) has signed a one-year contract with CSKA Moscow in the KHL. He spent the majority of the 2019-20 season with Sochi in the KHL tallying three assists in 36 games.

Elliott signs in Sweden

Stefan Elliott (282 GP, 82 G, 159 A with the Saskatoon Blades from 2006-2011) has signed with Frolunda Gothenburg in Sweden. The former second-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche had two goals and six assists in 18 games with Dinamo Minsk in the KHL in 2019-20.

Budik to stick around with Plzen 

Vojtech Budik (189 GP, 18 G, 65 A with the Prince Albert Raiders) had the option on his contract exercised by Plzen in the Czech Republic meaning he’ll stick around for at least one more year. Last season Budik scored three goals and had 18 assists.

Dudas signs extension with Vitokovice 

Jesse Dudas (175 GP, 11 G, 82 A with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Prince George Cougars, Swift Current Broncos and Regina Pats from 2003-2009) has signed a one-year contract extension with Vitkovice Ostrava in the Czech Republic. The former sixth-round pick of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets played 10 games for Vitkovice in 2019-20 and had four assists.
