Sami Moilanen signs extension

 

Sami Moilanen (120GP, 43G, 45A with Seattle) has signed an agreement with Tappara of Liiga. Moilanen has been with Tappara for the last two seasons and has played 15 games with the club this season, scoring two goals. The agreement has been signed through spring 2023. Moilanen won the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Thunderbirds at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season.

Engelland announces his retirement

Deryk Engelland (243GP, 14G, 34A with Moose Jaw ’98-’03) has decided to hang up his skates after 17 professional seasons. A sixth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 2000, Engelland took the long road to the NHL. His first six professional seasons were spent working hard in the ECHL and AHL to get a shot. In the 2009-10 season, he received a nine-game trial with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The rest is history, 671 NHL games, 30 goals and 97 assists tallied. Engelland won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears and was also the winner of the Mark Messier Leadership Trophy in 2017-18.

Kucerik named assistant captain for Czech team

The Czech Republic made their leadership group announcement and Saskatoon Blades defenseman Radek Kucerik was given an ‘A’ as an assistant captain for the team. Kucerik played 49 games last season with the Blades, scoring three times and adding 10 assists.
