Draft eligible WHL players to start season with Karlskrona HK

With the WHL looking to begin the season in December, the latest pair to head overseas to continue their development are Connor McClennon (93GP, 35G, 43A with Kootenay and Winnipeg ’17-’20) and Ridly Greig (123GP, 40G, 56A with Brandon ’17-’20). Both players are headed to Sweden to join Karlskrona HK of HockeyEttan. McClennon is coming off of a 49 point season in 42 games for the ICE while Greig had 60 points in 56 games for the Wheat Kings. McClennon and Grieg are listed on the NHL Central Scouting (North America) list at 65th and 14th respectively.

Oksanen joins Kiekko-Espoo

Emil Oksanen (58GP, 16G, 32A with Regina ’17-’18) has signed a player agreement in Finland with Kiekko-Espoo. Oksanen has spent the last two seasons playing for SaiPa of the Finnish Elite League, Liiga, scoring five goals and three assists in 35 games in the ’19-’20.

Thrower re-signs with ECHL’s Atlanta Gladiators

Josh Thrower (309GP, 11G, 62A with Calgary, Vancouver, Tri-City, and Moose Jaw ’11-’17) has agreed to return to the ECHL with the Atlanta Gladiators after finishing the season with two goals and two assists. He previously spent two seasons with the Allen Americans from ’17-’19.

NHL’s Capitals loan Alexeyev to the Salavat Yulaev Ufa

Following a successful AHL season with the Hershey Bears, Alexander Alexeyev (135GP, 21G, 80A with Red Deer ’16-’19) has been loaned to Salavat Yulaev Ufa to start the upcoming season. Alexeyev finished the AHL season with three goals and 18 assists in 58 games, good enough for 12th in points among the AHL’s rookie defensemen.

Fowlie set to make ECHL return

Cody Fowlie (208GP, 38G, 59A with Everett and Kelowna ’10-’13) has signed with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. Fowlie spent last season with ASC Corona Brasov of both Erste Liga (which hosts teams from Hungary, Romania, and Austria) amassing 51 goals and 41 assists in 64 contests between both leagues this season. This marks a return to the ECHL as Fowlie has previously played 92 games for the Jacksonville IceMen.
