Brandon Wheat Kings captain Stelio Mattheos signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday and will report to the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL on an amateur try-out. The 19-year-old is just coming off his second consecutive 40-goal season after putting up 44 goals and 52 assists in 65 games this season. He was drafted by the Hurricanes in the third round (73rd overall) in 2017 and has 278 points (127G, 151A) in 253 WHL games with the Wheat Kings after he was selected first overall in the 2014 Bantam Draft.

The St. Louis Blues signed Portland Winterhawks goaltender Joel Hofer to a three-year entry-level contract. Hofer, 18, was selected in last year’s NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round (107th overall) by the Blues after winning a WHL championship with Swift Current. The Winnipeg native finished the season with a 15-29-2-1 record, a 3.72 GAA and a .906 with three shutouts split between the Broncos and Winterhawks.

The Calgary Hitmen have recalled top prospect Sean Tschigerl from OHA Edmonton Prep after the end of his midget season. The fourth overall pick from last year had 47 points (21G, 26A) in 28 games as well as four points (1G, 3A) in five playoff games. He also got into eight regular season games with the Hitmen, scoring once.

The Spokane Chiefs have added Mike Ladyman to their roster as an affiliate for the duration of the playoffs following the conclusion of his season with the Winnipeg Blues of the MJHL. The 2001-born defenceman was originally drafted by the Regina Pats in the fifth round (108th overall) in 2016 before being listed by the Chiefs. In 26 MJHL games this season, he has four goals and 24 assists for 28 points as well has 22 games with the Chiefs, recording two assists.
