The Coronavirus has caused another event to be canceled. The event is the largest of its kind in showcasing the Midget age group in a large format. The event has been held every year since 1978 and is held from Boxing Day until New Year’s Day in Calgary, AB.

Eetu Tuulola (62GP, 18G, 13A with Everett ’17-’17) has been loaned by the Calgary Flames to Vasterviks IK of HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden. Tuulola is a former Gold Medalist with Finland at the IIHF World Junior Championships as well as a winner of the Liiga Championship with HPK. Last season, Tuulola spent playing in the AHL with the Stockton Heat scoring 10 goals and adding 13 assists in 50 games.

Colton Heffley (315GP, 27G, 65A with Kelowna and Prince Albert ’09-’15) is returning to the ECHL’s Allen Americans following a season split between the Americans and Dalhousie University. As captain at Dalhousie, Heffley scored eight goals and added nine assists in 29 games. He also played eight games with the Americans, scoring once.

Ricard Blidstrand (132GP, 8G, 35A with Regina and Prince George ’10-’12) has signed with Vasby IK of HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden. Blidstrand, a 2010 seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers joins his third team in HockeyAllsvenskan. Last season with AIK, Blidstrand played 50 games, posting five assists.

Cody Franson (199GP, 34G, 85A with Vancouver ’02-’07) has signed a one year deal with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Following two seasons in the KHL with Avangard Omsk, Franson has returned to the Chicago Blackhawks affiliate for whom he played in 2017-18. Franson was a member of the 2007 team that went to the WHL Final and then went on to win the Memorial Cup as hosts. He was a third-round selection of the Nashville Predators in 2005.

Jakob Stukel (265GP, 103G, 94A with Vancouver and Calgary ’12-’18) has signed with VEU Feldkirch of AlpsHL in Europe. Last season Stukel split between the Bakersfield Condors (36GP, 6G, 4A) and the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder (5GP, 0G, 1A). Stukel was a sixth-round selection of the Vancouver Canucks in 2016.

Michael Rasmussen (161GP, 81G, 76A with Tri-City Americans) has been loaned by the Detroit Red Wings to Graz 99ers of ICEHL. The 99ers call Austria home. Last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Rasmussen scored seven goals and added 15 assists in 35 games. The Vancouver, BC native was selected in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Red Wings.
