Panthers sign Ludvig to an entry-level contract

The Florida Panthers signed Portland Winterhawks captain John Ludvig to his entry-level contract on Monday. The Panthers selected Ludvig in the third round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Our Josh Critzer has the full story here.

Gilliss, Sawchuk commit to Mount Royal University

Lane Gilliss (261 GP, 40 G, 57 A with the Portland Winterhawks from 2016-20) and Riley Sawchuk (259 GP, 62 G, 98 with the Tri-City Americans and Edmonton Oil Kings from 2015-20) have committed to Mount Royal University for the 2020-21 season.

Pellerin won’t be back with Americans

Brian Pellerin won’t be back behind the Americans bench next season according to a release from the Americans. The former Prince Albert Raiders forward had been an associate coach with the Americans since 2014. Prior to joining the Americans, he also had a stint with the Portland Winterhawks as an assistant coach from 2004-2008.

Chiefs name co-defensemen of the year

The Spokane Chiefs announced that Filip Kral and Ty Smith will share the John “Hitmen” Hern Award as co-defensemen of the year for 2019-20. The team also announced that Kral has been named the Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year.

Carruth signs extension in Germany

Mac Carruth (176 GP, 2.85 GAA, .910 Save Percentage with a 117-46-3-3 record with the Portland Winterhawks from 2009-13) has signed a one-year contract extension with Lausiter Fuchse Weisswasser in Germany. Last season he played 43 games posting a 20-22-0 record with a 2.98 GAA, .920 Save Percentage, two shutouts, and three assists.

Pelino diagnosed with COVID-19

Former Spokane Chiefs assistant coach Mike Pelino has been diagnosed with COVID-19 according to a tweet from one of his former teams. Pelino, who worked with the Chiefs from 1997-1999, has been coaching in Russia since 2013. DubNetwork would like to wish Pelino all the best for a speedy recovery.

Bowkus passes away at 53

Former Saskatoon Blades forward Jack Bowkus passed away over the weekend at the age of 53. Bowkus played for the Blades from 1984 until 1988 scoring 83 goals and adding 146 assists in 230 games. DubNetwork would like to extend its condolences to those who knew him.
