Tschigerl debuts

Calgary Hitmen top prospect Sean Tschigerl made his debut Sunday afternoon in a 4-1 loss to Red Deer, recording one shot on goal. The 2018 fourth overall pick has been playing this season for OHA Edmonton Prep of the CSSHL where he has 43 points in just 24 games this season.

Winterhawks reach milestones

20-year-old defenceman Brendan De Jong played in his 300th career WHL game in Portland’s 5-1 win over Everett on Saturday, scoring a goal. He was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the sixth round, 166th overall in 2017 and has 80 points in 301 games in the WHL.

Recently acquired Josh Paterson skated in his 250th WHL game Sunday evening in a 3-2 loss against Tri-City. The 19-year-old from Edmonton has 142 points in the 250 games, including four points in four games for the Winterhawks.

Former Winterhawk fitting in with new team

Former Portland Winterhawk Nino Niederreiter scored his first two goals in his second game with the Carolina Hurricanes after being acquired from Minnesota for former Calgary Hitmen forward Victor Rask this past Thursday. The Swiss forward skated in 120 WHL games, recording 130 points.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Tri-City’s Kyle Olson had two goals in the Americans 3-2 win over Portland.

2nd Star: 16-year-old goalie Talyn Boyko stopped 45 of 47 shots for his second career win.

3rd Star: Victoria’s Griffen Outhouse had 39 saves in a 2-1 win over Everett.

Red Deer’s Brandon Hagel had a goal and an assist in the Rebels 4-1 win over Calgary….Kamloops Martin Lang had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime win over the Cougars….Victoria’s Kody McDonald scored the game winning goal in the Royals’ win against Everett….

Troubling Moments

Sunday afternoon’s game involving the Red Deer Rebels and the Calgary Hitmen had two major penalties including this checking to the head major from the Hitmen’s Egor Zamula:

The second major penalty came from Hitmen captain Mark Kastelic who received a five minute major and a game misconduct for head butting.
