Giants add Katzalay on three-game try-out

The Vancouver Giants have added 19-year-old forward Holden Katzalay to the roster on a three-game tryout. The Vancouver native spent all of last year and the beginning of this year with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles where he has 30 goals and 33 assists in 79 games. He does have 59 games of WHL experience with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2017-18 season when he recorded two assists.

Smith returns to Chiefs lineup

Spokane Chiefs defenseman Ty Smith returned to the lineup for the first time since the CHL-Russia Series. He had been listed on the injury report with an upper-body injury but it’s not clear when the injury was sustained.

Benson suspended two games

Swift Current’s Matthew Benson has been suspended for two games for this hit on Lethbridge’s Dino Kambeitz. Benson has already served the first game of that suspension having missed Friday’s game against the Regina Pats and will be eligible to return next Friday against the Prince Albert Raiders.

Stastny signs a new contract in Slovakia 

Andrej Stastny (32 GP, 10 G, 20 A with the Vancouver Giants from 2010-11) has signed on with Zvloen in Slovakia for the rest of the season after being released from Banska Bystrica. In 18 games with Banska Bystrica he had two goals and six assists.

Three Stars:

First Star: Lethbridge’s Dylan Cozens recorded one goal and four assists in an 11-2 win over Red Deer.

Second Star: Lethbridge’s Calen Addison tallied a hat-trick

Third Star: Vancouver’s Tristan Nielsen scored two goals and added an assist in a 5-4 overtime win over Edmonton.

Honourable Mentions:

Lethbridge’s D-Jay Jerome and Spokane’s Cordel Larson had multi-goal games.

Troubling Moments

Red Deer’s Christoffer Sedoff received a five-minute major for boarding and Spokane’s Luke Toporowski was ejected, allegedly for something he said.
