Daily Dose of the Dub: Games in danger of getting snowed out; Wheat Kings starting to get healthy

Snow threatening games in Puget Sound region

On Friday in the Puget Sound area of the Pacific Northwest, many people are preparing for an onslaught of snow in an area that does not usually see the white powder falling from the skies much.

The Seattle Thunderbirds are not canceling their games yet though, but are keeping an eye on the situation. They play host to the Portland Winterhawks on Friday and Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday. The Winterhawks will be riding their bus from Kent to Everett for a big game with the division-leading Silvertips on Saturday, before heading back down to Portland for a match up with Medicine Hat Sunday.

The Tigers start out in Everett on Friday before playing the other two teams in the region.

If the weather report is to be believed, the area could be buried in snow, making the roads a struggle for the teams and fans. There is a chance that some of the games could be postponed. If and of Medicine Hat’s are, the big challenge would be how the Tigers would be able to get back over to play the games before the season ends in a little over a month.

Corral series continues and Raiders are getting in on it

-The Prince Albert Raiders visit the Calgary Hitmen in the Corral on Friday night. They will be wearing their sweaters from the 1988-89 season, in spirit with the Corral Series. The Hitmen, in the last game of the series, will be wearing Calgary Wranglers sweaters. The Wranglers played in Calgary from 1977-78 until 1987 before moving to Lethbridge and becoming the Hurricanes.

The Wranglers made it all the way to the WHL Final in 1981, before losing to Grant Fuhr and the Victoria Cougars.

Southam makes a statement

-Former Tri-City Americans (2012-15) and Kelowna Rockets (2015-17) forward Rodney Southam released a statement about the incident during a game between Acadia University and the St. Fx X-men.

Bow up with Dallas

Goalie Ben Bishop is unable to go against the Nashville Predators on Friday. That means Dallas called up former Swift Current Broncos (2012-15) and Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Landon Bow (2015-16).

He has played one game with the Dallas Stars, a relief appearance against the Pittsburgh Penguins during a previous call up. He has a 2.70 GAA and 0.902 save percentage in 34 games with the AHL’s Texas Stars this season.

Stankoven back again

-The hometown kid is getting the most out of being from Kamloops. He is back up with the Blazers even though he has already played in five games. It is believed that Kamloops got an exception due to player absences because of injuries and suspensions and most of his earlier games do not count towards that five game limit for 15 year olds while their Midget team is still playing. Right wing Jeff Faith is currently out because of suspension.

Wheat Kings look to return

-The Brandon Wheat Kings could have all three players listed on the Weekly Report this week back when  they host the Swift Current Broncos Friday night.

Forward Linden McCorrister has not played since January 4th and goalie Patera was hurt the weekend before last.
