Lightning sign pair of WHL picks

Jack Finley (131GP, 28G, 49A with Spokane) has been signed to a three-year entry-level contract by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Finley was a second-round selection of the Lightning at the 2020 NHL Draft. The Kelowna, BC native had been loaned to the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL before COVID-19 shut down the season temporarily.

Gage Goncalves (128GP, 34G, 52A with Everett) has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning selected Goncalves in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft. The Mission, BC native more than quadrupled his point output from 2018-19 from 15 points to 71.

Berglund part of trade in KHL

Jacob Berglund (132GP, 27G, 32A with Portland and Lethbridge ’09-’11) has been traded from Traktor Chelyabinsk to Severstal Cherepovets for Ludwig Bystrom. Berglund will join his fourth KHL team in two seasons. He has scored 18 goals and added 17 assists over 61 KHL games. Berglund has won a Norwegian Championship with Storhamar in 2017-18.

Hughson contract terminated by Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák

Garrett Hughson (105GP, 41-38-7, 3.07GAA, .895sv% with Spokane ’12-’16) has been released by Dunaujvarosi Acelbikak of the Erste Liga in Hungary. Hughson was taking part in his second season in Hungary following three seasons with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

Former Rocket signs with Dusseldorfer EG

Kyle Cumiskey (177GP, 12G, 67A with Kelowna ’03-’06) has signed a contract to play with Dusseldorfer EG of the DEL. The 2005 NHL Draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche has enjoyed a successful hockey career, winning both the Ed Chynoweth Cup and Memorial Cup with the Rockets and a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks (2014-15). Last season with the Binghamton Devils (AHL) Cumiskey scored three goals and added 12 assists in 34 games.

Concussions spell end for Novotny

Stepan Novotny (189GP, 66G, 71A Kelowna and Swift Current ’08-’11) has called it a career following four concussions over a 10-year professional career. Novotny won an Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Rockets in 2008-09. Most recently, Novotny played with both HC Ocelari Trinec and HC Frydek-Mistek in the Czech Republic. The native of Praha, CZE will continue his working career with a private gym in Prague.

Winterhawks sale details
