Daily Dose of the Dub: Dach plays first NHL game, Savoie gets first WHL point and more

Dach suits up for his first NHL game 

Kirby Dach played his first NHL game on Sunday as the Chicago Blackhawks took on the Washington Capitals. He didn’t hit the scoresheet but did get 13:41 of ice-time on 17 shifts.

Leppard gets a new number in Winnipeg 

Jackson Leppard was wearing a new number when he made his debut for the Winnipeg ICE on Sunday switching from #8 to #10.

Milestones 

  • Calgary Hitmen forward James Malm posted his 200th WHL point with two assists against the Medicine Hat Tigers
  • Winnipeg ICE forward Matthew Savoie picked up an assist for his first WHL point and defenseman Anson McMaster scored his first WHL goal as the ICE blew out the Blades 7-2.

Russell plays his 800th NHL game 

Kris Russell (241 GP, 76 G, 120 A with the Medicine Hat Tigers) played in his 800th NHL game on Sunday night. His career has spanned 12 seasons with stops with the Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars and now Edmonton Oilers and 46 goals and 182 assists.

Ferguson makes his first professional start and earns first win

He played nine minutes for the Vegas Golden Knights back in 2017-18 so we can’t call this his first career game, but Dylan Ferguson (156 GP with the Kamloops Blazers) did get his first professional start making 35 saves for his first professional win as the Wolves beat the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 in a shootout.

Sydlowski remains with Crusaders 

Despite being added by the Red Deer Rebels earlier this week, Blake Sydlowski has remained with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, scoring a goal for the team on Saturday as they shellacked the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 8-1.

First Star of the Night: Winnipeg ICE forward Brad Ginnell scored two goals and added an assist

Second Star: Calgary Hitmen forward Mark Kastelic tallied two goals in a 6-3 win over Medicine Hat.

Third Star: Calgary Hitmen forward Riley Stotts had two goals of his own.

Calgary’s Jackson van de Leest had a goal and two assists as did Medicine Hat’s Cole Sillinger.
