Cougars win 2020 WHL Bantam Draft Lottery

The Prince George Cougars have won the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft Lottery meaning they will move up to the second pick from the fourth pick. This bumps Moose Jaw to the third pick and Tri-City to the fourth pick while the Regina Pats retain the first pick. In an interview with the Regina Leader-Post, Pats General Manager John Paddock confirmed the team will select Connor Bedard who was granted exceptional status on Tuesday which will allow him to play in the WHL full-time next season.

The WHL also held its first-ever U.S. Prospects Draft with the Red Deer Rebels using the first pick to select Gracyn Sawchyn from Shattuck St. Mary’s Bantam A1. The Moose Jaw Warriors announced their team awards on Wednesday afternoon:
- Ryder Korczak was the team’s top scorer, 3 Stars Award Winner and was co-winner of the player of the year.
- Logan Doust was named the Most Sportsmanlike Player
- Eric Alarie received the Scholastic Achievement Award and Rookie of the Year award.
- Cade Hayes is this year’s Most Improved Player.
- Owen Hardy won the Hustle Award and Fan’s Choice Award and was co-winner of the player of the year.
- Tate Popple is the Humanitarian of the Year and Unsung Hero.
- Daemon Hunt was named the Top Defenseman of the Year.

The NHL has postponed this year’s Scouting Combine and Entry Draft due to ongoing concerns with COVID-19. The location, timing, and format of the NHL Entry Draft and Draft Lottery will be announced once details have been finalized. As of this time, it is unknown how much this will impact the CHL Import Draft as it is normally held after the NHL Draft.
