Cougars sign Heidt to WHL Education Contract

The first two picks in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft have now signed their WHL Education Contracts with Riley Heidt signing with the Prince George Cougars. Heidt played ahead of his draft class with the Saskatoon Contacts in the SMHL this season scoring 17 goals and adding 20 assists in 44 games last season.

Insight into what the 2020-21 CHL Season could look like

There has been a lot of uncertainty over whether CHL teams will take to the ice for the 2020-21 season because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. The Insiders over at TSN have provided some insight into some of the things the CHL is considering to allow us to see Junior hockey next season.

Of Note:

  • Agreement in place to move Memorial Cup to mid-June to provide late start flexibility.
  • Potentially back-loaded season, with somewhere in the neighbourhood of 20 games before Christmas and the rest after.
  • CHL looking at June 30th for import draft 

Rockets promote McFaul to head scout role

Following the retirement of Lorne Frey, the Kelowna Rockets have promoted Terry McFaul to the head scout position. Like Frey, McFaul is also an original Rocket having been with the team since the first game in Tacoma 29 years ago.

Martin signs in AHL

Max Martin (271 GP, 36 G, 128 A with the Prince George Cougars, Prince Albert Raiders, and Kamloops Blazers) has signed with the AHL’s Texas Stars for the 2020-21 season.

Kaluski finds USports home

A day after recruiting Parker Gavlas from the Medicine Hat Tigers, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies have recruited Jaxan Kaluski (173 GP, 28 G, 27 A with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Seattle Thunderbirds and Swift Current Broncos) for the 2020-21 USports season.

Geertsen signs extension with Wolf Pack

Mason Geertsen (245 GP, 19 G, 59 A with the Edmonton Oil Kings and Vancouver Giants from 2010-15) has signed an extension with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. He played 60 games in Hartford in 2019-20 and registered eight assists.

Kudrna signs extension in Czech Republic

Andrej Kudrna (201 GP, 77 G, 97 A with the Vancouver Giants and Red Deer Rebels from 2008-11) has signed an extension with Sparta Prague for the 2020-21 season. Last season Kudrna had 10 goals and 19 assists in 49 games, finishing third on the team in assists.
