Canadian Hockey League issues statement on Memorial Cup

The CHL has issued the following statement on the status of the 2020 Memorial Cup slated to be hosted in Kelowna starting May 22nd:
“The Canadian Hockey League has been in regular communication with the Kelowna Host Organizing Committee for the 2020 Memorial Cup and they fully support the league’s decision to suspend play this season until further notice. The health and safety of all committee members, the players, fans, volunteers, and the community, is of vital importance. Together, in partnership with the Host Organizing Committee, the CHL will continue to monitor information and developments provided by local, provincial and federal health agencies. At this time it remains our hope that the event will continue as scheduled, however more information will be shared as details around the balance of the 2019-20 season are determined as we work through these unprecedented circumstances.”

According to a report in The Daily Courier in Kelowna, the WHL will be meeting on Tuesday, March 17 to discuss their COVID-19 plan. According to an interview the Courier did with Kelowna Rockets general manager Bruce Hamilton the board of governors will have a discussion on Tuesday but any decision will come down to local health authorities.
Rockets cancel awards ceremony
The Kelowna Rockets 2019-2020 Awards Ceremony scheduled for Sunday, March 22, 2020, has been cancelled.

The Kelowna Rockets canceled their 2019-20 Awards Ceremony which was supposed to take place next Sunday.

McDonald announces retirement
Ian McDonald (Tri-City, 2000-2006) has retired, according to the website of his club, Selb (Germany, Oberliga Süd). 50 GP, 24+59, alternate captain. Led league in assists, second in points.

Ian McDonald (329 GP, 72 G, 145 A with the Tri-City Americans from 2000-2006) announced his retirement on Friday. After graduating from the WHL, McDonald would play 14 more seasons in 10 different countries in his career.
