The Spokane Chiefs became the sixth team in the WHL and third in the U.S. Division to clinch a playoff spot after a 7-1 win over Prince George on Wednesday. The Chiefs have a record of 33-19-2-0 and sit four points ahead of Tri-City for third in the division with nine games remaining for both teams. This season marks the twelfth time in 13 years the team has competed in the postseason.

Earlier in the day, the Chiefs signed 2002-born prospect Reed Jacobson to a Standard Player Agreement. The Swift Current native was originally drafted by Spokane in the sixth round (115th overall) in 2017 and has 55 points (26G, 29A) in 44 games this season with the Swift Current Legionnaires of the SMHL.

Less than 24 hours after signing with the team, Prince Albert Raiders prospect Evan Herman made his WHL debut in a 5-4 overtime loss to Lethbridge, going pointless. The 2017 third round pick has 13 goals and 13 assists in 30 games with Rink Hockey Academy Prep.

Former Kootenay ICE and Red Deer Rebels forward Luke Philp won the USports Canada West Player of the Year for the second straight year after putting up 45 points in just 24 games for the University of Alberta Golden Bears. In 264 WHL games, the Camrose, AB native had 251 points (103G, 148A) in parts of five seasons in the WHL.
Everett gets a big boost
Connor Dewar and Dawson Butt are cleared for this weekend against Tri-Ciru according to @WHLsilvertips general manager Garry Davidson.

The Everett Silvertips will be getting a big boost this upcoming weekend with top scorer Connor Dewar and Dawson Butt returning to the line-up. Dewar has been out since February 16th and has 73 points (34G, 39A) in 52 games this season.
Butt has been out of the line-up since February 2nd and has 14 points (7G, 7A) in 48 games this season.

1st Star: Calgary’s Carson Focht scored four times in a 9-3 win over Swift Current.
2nd Star: Spokane’s Jaret Anderson-Dolan had two goals and three assists in a 7-1 win over Prince George.
3rd Star: Calgary’s Kaden Elder had a hat trick in their win over the Broncos.
