Daily Dose of the Dub: Broncos sign Buchanan; Balcers makes NHL debut; Sward pots first WHL goal

Broncos add Buchanan

The Swift Current Broncos have signed ‘01 Kye Buchanan to a WHL Standard Player Agreement and will be joining the team immediately and also will finish the year with the team.

The 17 year old is just coming off a Mac’s Midget AAA tournament win with the St. Albert Raiders of the AMHL, where he has 11 points in 16 games this season. He was acquired in a December 4th trade that sent Noah King to Spokane.

Former Blazer makes NHL debut

Former Kamloops Blazer Rudolfs Balcers made his NHL debut for the Ottawa Senators in a 4-3 loss to Minnesota, which he finished the game a -1 and had 7:45 of ice time. The 21-year-old Latvian played for Kamloops in the ’16-’17 season where he had 40 goals and 37 assists in 66 games. He was originally drafted by San Jose in the fifth round, 142nd overall in 2015 before going to Ottawa as a part of the Erik Karlsson trade.

Sward gets his first

Spokane Chiefs ‘03 prospect Graham Sward potted his first WHL goal in his debut Saturday night in a 8-4 win over Kootenay. The 2018 17th overall pick was called up three days ago by the Chiefs, who has been playing for the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the BCMML where he has produced 17 points in 19 games.

2nd Star: Spokane’s Ty Smith had four assists in the Chiefs’ 8-4 win over Kootenay.

3rd Star: Prince Albert’s Noah Gregor had two goals and an assist in the Raiders’ 5-2 win over the Blades.
