Stankoven breaks record

Kamloops Blazers prospect Logan Stankoven rewrote the BC Major Midget League record books on Sunday. The Kamloops native scored his 45th goal of the season, passing current Colorado Avalanche forward Tyson Jost’s record of 44. He has been lighting up the league for the Thompson Blazers, having 90 points (45G, 45A) in just 34 games this season. Stankoven has appeared in seven WHL games this season, recording an assist.

Guhle on the move

Former Prince Albert Raiders and Prince George Cougars defenceman Brendan Guhle was traded by the Buffalo Sabres, along with a first round pick, to the Anaheim Ducks. He has spent this season with Buffalo’s AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans, where he has 27 points (5G, 22A) in 50 games along with two games this season with the Sabres going pointless. The Edmonton native skated in 233 WHL games, scoring 103 points (30G, 73A) as well as five assists in 23 NHL games.

Doan gets number retired

Former Kamloops Blazers forward Shane Doan saw his number 19 raised into the rafters at the Gila River Arena ahead of the Arizona Coyotes game against the Winnipeg Jets. The two teams wore special Shane Doan jerseys during warm up as tribute to his time in both NHL cities. The Halkirk, AB native joined the Blazers for the ’92/’93 season, playing there until ’94/’95 where he had 161 points (68G, 93A) in 174 WHL games. The two-time Memorial Cup and two-time WHL champion went on to have a 21 year NHL career where he played in 1540 games and 972 points (402G, 570A).
