Daily Dose of the Dub: Blazers make pair of trades; Americans add Hyman

Blazers begins rebuild with two separate deals

The Kamloops Blazers traded away a pair of veterans on Monday, shipping overage forward Luc Smith to Spokane in exchange for fellow overage d-man Jeff Faith, and third- and sixth-round draft picks in 2020. The team also sent veteran blueliner Nolan Kneen to Saskatoon for Kamloops native Jackson Caller, and second- and third-round picks in 2020.

Kamloops will likely feel the loss of the two veterans immediately. The 6’4″ Smith has posted 19 points over 22 games this season, and Nolan Kneen — the third overall pick in the 2014 WHL Draft — has recorded 20 points in 22 games.

Tri-City adds overage d-man Hyman

The Tri-City Americans have acquired 20-year-old defenseman Aaron Hyman from Regina in exchange for overage winger Brett Clayton and a third-rounder in this year’s draft. Hyman was a member of the league-champion Seattle Thunderbirds in 2016-17, and also appeared in the Memorial Cup last season with the host Regina Pats. He’s potted five goals and 19 assists over the first 25 games this season.

Bean called up

The Carolina Hurricanes recalled d-man Jake Bean from AHL Charlotte on Monday, and could make his NHL debut as soon as Tuesday in Montreal. The former Calgary Hitmen and Tri-City American blueliner has posted 11 points in 21 games with the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, in his first professional season.

Valenti heads over for Division 1 World Juniors

Vancouver Giants’ winger Yannik Valenti will be joining the German squad for their upcoming tournament in the Division 1 World Juniors, which features the countries not competing in the main WJC. The 18-year old has scored four goals thus far in his rookie WHL season.
